Thinking of Pulling Off A Rescue...

In one of the owie burny stations of doom....

Not actually been into once since they were introduced, so I figured I might pay them a visit, and try and melt my exploration-turned-rescue Anaconda, Event Horizon. (What could possibly go wrong? :D)

So, other than 20,000 heatsinks, what do I need? And where do I go?
Last time I checked, outfitting was poor out in the Pleiades, so I'll outfit in the bubble then zoom on over.

I don't need tips on actually pulling off the mission, figuring that bit out is the fun (and possibly expensive) part!

Thanks!

I went there on the first day, in a Courier with enhanced dirty drives and an overcharged PP, no heat sinks (it ran in normal space at 52% heat). I actually landed and exited (BARELY!), I was 'floating' as I came out of the mailslot with heat at about 320% iirc. My thrusters had just gone offline along with everything else. I rebooted and had all systems except 4 on 1%. Tough ship. My advice...take heat sinks and a small but cool ship.

I used a DBE set up for cool running (low emissions power plant), no weps and some passenger cabins and was able to get in and out without using heatsinks, as there's a lot of debris inside the stations it'd be easy to get caught up in it with a big ship (I did see a Beluga take a fair bit of damage when I was there) so take care in your Conda.

Yeah...

I have saved close to 16,000 people. :) (Using an Anaconda).

1 cargorack, rest Economic passenger cabins and at least 2 heat sinks.

I found by DBS rigged for low temperature was heating up about as fast as the T-7 I used for evacuation. So just bring Heatsinks. You only need one before landing and one at take off unless you get stuck on something. So two heatsink launchers should be enough.

You can get some good materials from these missions too.
I use a T-9, the only thing I changed was to stick four engineered heat sink launchers on it.
Really enjoy the rescue stuff.
Good luck!

You dont need anything too exotic. I've used both an AspX and a DBX to very good effect - never needed heat sinks. You will of course need passenger cabins. Also, you don't need to go very far at the moment. There are only two stations where you can do rescues atm (you can get them marked on your galaxy map), and they are barely out of the bubble.

2 heat sinks per trip is enough to minimize or even eliminate heat damage entirely.

Drop one just before you land, and one as soon as you launch.

My Python doesn't exactly run cool and I was rarely facing repair bills more than 1,000Cr, typically they were 100Cr or less.

I rescued some 3000 yesterday using a T7 with my new second commander. Normally you can get away with just one heatsink on the way out. Good thrusters will help a lot to enable a faster approach to the landing pad. I use a 5D grade III dirty drive @ 20%.
Was a lot of fun :D

:D

Well that was anti-climactic...!

I got in, and out, and stuck (twice) and only got to 102% heat. Or 123cr of damage. Lol

Didn't need my 12 heat sinks at all.

My biggest boo boo was somehow forgetting my discovery scanner... I'm not entirely sure where it ended up. But it's not on board... Lol

I was planning to record my epic* rescue and share it, but for reasons unknown, shadowplay didn't bother recording. Or even starting. Lol

Time for a second run methinks...

*Not at all interesting

I used my FGS for the rescues (only because it was the biggest ship I had in the area). Drop one heatsink on way in (if needed), and one on way out. That's all that is required. :)

Makes me think a Clipper would be handy.....

Rescue run #2.

This time, I managed to get my Anaconda in, and out without so much as a scrap, before my heat hit 98%.
No heat sink needed.

Rescue run #3
Again, in and out, this time without passing 95% heat. :D
And this time I had to dodge debris.

Observations:
Passengers are [understandably] impatient! I literally just accepted the mission and they tell me to hurry up. Selfish *mumble mumble*'s....

Also, for this mission, and this mission only, the complete lack of temperature guage when the landing hologram on, is quite an oversight. :p
Basically running on audio cues, and alarm bells. Lol

Rescued 432 people. That'll do!
Earned about 5~mil, and a load of rare materials and data.

The atmosphere and graphics are amazing, as always.
But it's not any more difficult than dodging NPC's in a normal station. :D

To be honest, I've effectively been practicing how to dock in these situations since I started playing ED. I very rarely obey the speed limit, or fly cautiously. I always act if there's a fire somewhere!

Overall, FD, good effort, but still to easy.

Next challenge!

Top tip for anyone going to rescue peeps. Bigger A class powerplant than you need and then modify it for efficiency. My Anaconda barely breaks 85% even when boosting out the station with explosions in the backdrop. I'm tempted to re-christen it as sub-zero but it's a little too obvious a name :p

T-10 strangely enough runs incredible cool. I didn't pick up any passengers, spent a lot of time in the burning stations picking up escape pods, the heavy mass also means it can take being hit by explosions inside the station.

I run these in a specially outfitted Orca - Rescue Zero

What's so special about the outfitting? Actually nothing all that special. I have cabins for 48, a cool-running power plant, and some good thrusters.

I can slip in, fill up, and pull out, and only hit around 140% heat. I've never needed a heat sink. The very little heat damage taken costs me around 5k credits to fix after I drop off my nicely smoked passengers. They're typically paying upwards of 100k credits to get out. I can afford the repairs.

You could always do a Mr freeze and make an ice pun.

My choice would be "ice to meet you"
