PvP Why PvP is not popular in Elite Dangerous?

Ah, but how glorious would it be if they just through us all together and forced us to work are problems out. That game would be amazing. Sure, we'd lose a lot of dedicated private/solo players, but we would gain a lot of players who've already left because of the current ruleset, or even players who look at it and gag before moving on to play something else.

When I think about the gameplay that would emerge from a "one mode to rule them all" situation I get tingly all over.

Jason doesn't care about losing me [sad]

Not all over, just in the back of my throat caused by acid reflux.

Just your personal fantasy though and you gotta accept that.

Many of us have seen what will come of that with systems as they are and we're absolutely not interested. Have you seen how unwilling many are to work their problems out with others?!?!?

Sorry Zig. If you were here I'd do something about that.

Mega-servers are the WORST MMO invention yet, and anyway - given ED's peer-to-peer architecture it ain't gonna happen.

Let a guy dream, okay?

Yes, frostypaw, I have noticed that.

Like these forums.

Amazing might not be the word to describe it. Clusterfrog would be my choice.

If there was a one mode, no instances, no latency server for ED, I think things would work out fine in the end.

Not that it's possible to make a game like that. That's many years into the future.

For now, it's better to stick with what we have.

Yup - your view is entirely one sided.
Yeah, i understand you mister Constructive Discussion. Interesting that it is you who said something about emotional maturity.

Btw i checked whote thread, this is pointless discussion here :) All sides have own opinion and throw poops at each other. Not interested in it anymore )

That's pretty much the main activity and purpose of the forum; throwing poop at each other. It grows on you, if you stick around long enough.

Indeed. It always does. Usually just after pigs start flying.

Clive the Flying Pig.

Under all that humor is a deeply rooted cynicism, isn't there? I actually do think it would be fun, and that more positives than negatives would emerge from the experiment.

On a sad note, I have a move scheduled for later this year to a new home with great rural views and lousy Internet, so my time in Open (or maybe even playing at all) is on a rapidly expiring timer:(

Cynicism, or realism from experience.

Truth of the matter is, MMOs with the kind of setting you envisage disgust me. It allows groups with Napoleonic Pillocks who have more time than decency on their hands to boss around other players. A lone pilot will always get royally screwed, because if you don't fly in the protection of a group, sucks to be you. If Elite had such a setting, I would never have bought it. "No you can't enter this system, it's under blockade of Pillocks United", is a phrase that can go frog itself. Couple of years ago I even noticed similar behaviour in an explorer group. I wasn't even a part of that group, but as an explorer I get blamed for not dancing to their tune. I don't need that poisonous crap while I am trying to relax playing a game.

My game, not anyone else's game. I play the game on my terms, and the ones the game throws at me. Frontier Development is the only party I will agree to boss me around. Anyone else who tries gets a 2 finger salute.

Nooo! Could that mean a no show for you for DWE2?

I don't know yet. The area I'm moving to has Internet, I'm just not sure if it's good enough for get togethers. I'm pretty sad about the possibility of having to forsake multiplayer, but I won't know for sure till I get there and plug in. The move doesn't take place until July or August.

You know guys, during my months in the wilderness (i.e., Total War Warhammer) waiting for 2.1 to be fixed, something struck me.

Their forums are sterile as a neutron-bombed operating theatre.

If ED PvP and PvE are ever made completely separate and 100% opt-in, like in games like TWW, most of the Elite Frenemies in this place will have to ask matron for extra Prozac, they'll be missing those good old days so hard...

Mental note: arrange meeting with J.B. before July for hilarious PvP battle.

Yeah .... they have moderators.

I've noticed that, too. I wasn't just joking with Ziggy; I love the back and forth energy created by PvErs & PvPers, and what there is of it in Open is far and away why favorite part of the game.

On a side note, speaking of time away in the wilderness, I dusted off my Orbweaver gamepad last night for the first time in almost eight months. I wasn't even sure I'd remember what all the controls did, but I stuck a full FA-Off landing within five minutes of firing everything up, like riding a bicycle. Man, that felt really good. Today I'm heading to camp a haz res and take potshots at every Eagle and DBX I can find with my Rails to see if I still have the reflexes for them:)

That does sound like a great formula for a funny video! I'm up for that if you're serious about it:)

I disagree, I have seen enough of free mode PvP to know it is not really viable in any unconstrained form for a game like ED.
