Chrome*d* vs Chrome - honestly??

We've all seen the shiny screen shots of the chrome paint jobs (especially on the Cutter), so when the "chromed" paint job became available some time over Christmas, I snapped it up for my Conda.

Unfortunately, to my disappointment, when I looked it looked at it in outfitting, it looked more like cardboard sprayed with cheap silver spray paint than the shiny chrome finish that I'd been hoping for. Anyway, I didn't think that much of it at the time - thought either my graphics settings were not right or that it just didn't quite look the same on Conda's angular panels - so I forgot about it until it was on sale again this month.

This time, I bought it for the Cutter (which I acquired since Christmas) and for the Corvette (which I now nearly have), feeling relatively safe in the knowledge that at least the Cutter would look as good as expected... Wrong!

It wasn't until now that I read some of the recent threads and picked up on the fact that buying the 'chromed' paintjob doesn't actually get you the shiny 'chrome' finish that we've all seen on other people's ships. No - apparently 'chromed' and 'chrome' are completely different... of course... silly me for not realising! (?) And apparently (not surprisingly) I'm far from being the only one who was confused.

So, I can't help feeling a bit disappointed (that I don't get to have a shiny Cutter, or indeed a shiny anything, for that matter) and also a bit cheated (because I spent real life £credits, in good faith, based on a product description that I feel is misleading and open to confusion).

I'm sure there must be quite a few similarly disappointed people out there, so I'd like to propose that FDev:

1. Renames the 'Chromed' paint job to make it clear that it's not actually 'chrome'.

And

2. Either gives everyone who bought one of them the other one for free or offers them the opportunity to swap to their preferred choice (incurring zero cost to FDev in either case).

And same again for 'gold' and 'golden'!

I agree. Loved the chrome ships in star wars from naboo. But meh, the Cutter looks nothing like that with chromed :(

I agree... the FD "Chrome" needs some buffing... or something...

Put a ticket in, yeah. Support has been very good in my experience, so they'll probably give store credit and remove the paintjob for you.

This. Why is it so hard for FD to get chrome right? We already know they can do reflective surfaces just fine, so why not just apply the existing window reflection maps onto a silver ship texture?
They did get chrome right, it’s just not the “chromed” paint job that does it. Because of this I agree with OP, it shouldn’t have been called “chromed” since it’s more of a polished steel.

I didn’t buy the “chrome” or “gold” paint for anything when it was available because it I didn’t like the look of it, but did buy the “chromed” and “golden” for both my Conda and T-10 specifically for the metallic look. I’ve renamed my Conda Goldenmember too, because of obvious raisins...

I really hated the chrome ships in star wars with a passion. :D
I also like the chromed one more than the old chrome paintjob. Wouldn't have hurt to include both since most are in the game anyway.

Should have been called "Brushed Chrome" and "Brushed Gold". Nice skins in their own right, but not what people expect...

Z...

Satin chrome is not reflective. Tho naming should be corrected to avoid issues. Also - I don't get the overall enthusiasm towards shiny surfaces. Looks nice when freshly out of the box. Minute later - fingerprints everywhere.

Satin finish on the other hand...

If you look at Canopies, you'll see they render the reflections at extremely low Resolution. It's like a 128x128 Texture.
So if we had actual polished Chrome Paintjobs right now, they'd look super ugly.

i'm shattered. what an utter injustice ...

dude, you bought crap, you got crap. move on!

or ... you could learn to manage your expectations?
