Move Stations Closer To Planets

Why are they always so far away anyway ?

Move stations closer to planets so we can better appreciate these huge worlds coming into view as we exit the stations.

You know you do have a point. Maybe they can be adjusted by Planetary Gravity. Let take a system with .200 g. You need the station closer to stay in the rotation.

I like the idea.

One thing The issue might be Horizon and non-Horizon players. That could be the downfall of the idea.

Bad idea, IMO. The closer you get to a gravitational source such as a planet the slower your ship moves in supercruise. It would create a JEPOCHAL-G situation (see patch notes from Wings Update 1.2.06 or my youtube video from two years ago:

There's a lot of stations that are close to planets, just as there's a lot that are far out. I don't think they should be all one way or the other, they each have their pros and cons, and the existing variety seems realistically plausible.

I agree. I just wish that stations that are orbiting close to large planets/gas giants were further away, as it's difficult to get between the planet and lining up with the slot - Goldstien Port, Lembava, and Furukawa Port, 61 Viginis, are two examples of the stations being too close to the planet IMO.

Orbital distance and speed is determined by physics (except for Mitterand Hollow of course) so any distance will work as long as it is not affected by the gravity of another object. There are a couple of stations that are so close to planets you can't get to them unless you have a planetary landing suite on board, so yes they are all distances really.
