PvP Bounty Hunting Questions

With the changes to C&P, along with the Chieftain, I'm thinking of trying my hand at proper bounty hunting. I'm not talking bounty fishing, which is what we do when we go to a RES, I'm interested in hunting.

As I understand it, there's two ways this is implemented in-game. On the PvE side, there's "Pirate Assassination" missions, which feels like bounty hunting, though the mechanic becomes fairly repetitive after awhile. That's why I'm looking at PvP bounty hunting.

I'm sure there are different ways to find criminals (wait at a CG and eventually one will show up), but it seems Frontier's designated mechanism for this is the "Top 5 Bounties" report available at stations and outposts. Now I have a very important question about this. Two, technically, but they are both closely related. Does this list follow BGS rules, meaning that the CMDRs listed could be on any platform? Closely related, are CMDRs playing in solo and PG listed in this report?

I ask because I play on the PS4, and it would be a colossal waste of my time to chase down a wanted "ghost" on the PC or XBox. It would also be a waste of time chasing someone who is slaughtering NPCs in solo mode. In my opinion, this should only list CMDRs on my platform (and your platform for you), and the "last reported location" should be the last place the wanted CMDR was seen in open, as I'm pretty sure NPC bounty hunters are not reading this report.

A perfectly valid set of questions, to which I have no answers. I'm going to have to wager that Modes are not considered to be Exclusive, so you could well be Hunting a Private Group's #1 Most Wanted in Open to no avail. I'd wager platform MAY be a factor, since we cannot "see" commanders from one platform to another.

But we're going to need a Frontier Insider to actually answer these.

The answer to both of these is yes. The top 5 is across all platforms(pc, Mac, xbox, Ps4), and game modes (solo, private group, and Open). Also don't forget that your target can either just block you in game or combat log. While if your target is an established pvp player these are less of an issue (cloging is frowned apon in the PvP community, and so is using the block feature to avoid better players/death), most normal players are more then happy to use these methods to avoid death or loss of their bounties. You are going to soon find out that hunting players is near impossible if said player doesn't want to be hunted.

Also, it is possible to wipe or appear on the top 5 board with the current mechanics. Not sure how it will work with the new one in bound. Currently you need more than I think like 3 cmdrs to get Hugh enough bounties to actually populate a top 5 board. The board will only display top 5 bounties earner in that system. However, say 2 of the 3 suicidewind then the top 5 board will be wiped and the one that is left won’t appear. Food for thought.

It sounds like players are near impossible for me to hunt even if they do want to be found. Well scratch that idea, as I'd bet real money that the majority of players making these lists are PC or XBox players...

Personally, I wish PS4 players had their own BGS (we are in a parallel universe, after all), but that horse has already left the barn...

I can proudly say I have made the list 3 different times that I know of. However, it was in relation to PowerPlay which is how a lot of them get going. Those will be different now as we will have specific power play bounties or what not now.

My alt does PvP via PowerPlay (the exception is occasional piracy in anarchy systems). I'll have to investigate this PP bounty you speak of. Still, it's a pain not knowing what platform these CMDRs are tied to. I really think Frontier should give us some mechanism to show who is in our "universe", perhaps an * by the names of CMDRs in open on our platform. Maybe I'll put in a feature request for this after 3.0 drops, not that anyone reads those feature requests...

I’d rep you for this but apparently I need to spread the love. It’s a great idea. While they are at it, have them come out with some new ideas for power play as well. With the current system for example, I go undermine for Delaine and I’m killing ships that are hauling in a control system. This gets me standard bounties, with the new system those will be power play specific otherwise power play would be dead completely. I mean for example each system I undermine I leave with about a 1-2m in bounties. If I get that high in a system not anarchy moving forward ATF are going to put an end to my fun and from there on you won’t be able to properly undermine to hit the undermine trigger.

Besides no reason murder should be the same charge as power play politics.

Being new to this pew pew stuff, and ignorant to boot; Where does one find this "Bounty Board" with the top five your all talking 'bout?

Look at the stack of news reports under Galnet in the Station menu. You know, Commodities, Missions, Shipyard, Advanced Maintenance. Check out the lower middle. There's more there than first seems apparent.

Will only display if enough cmdrs in that system have been committing crimes. If not or if they clear enough of the bounties it will go away. It displays down where you find the traffic reports, system influence reports, news articles on that system etc

It is next to impossible.

Your best bet is to go to CG and look for wanted players.

You can try sending friend requests to the baddies on PS4, which will let you figure out where they are. Then you go investigate to see if they are up to baddie shenanigans.
