I've taken a passenger contract in ED, that requires me to travel a total distance of roughly 60kly.

Atmospheric Black Metal is great. But I can't seriously listen to that and that alone during my epic journey.

So what genres can you recommend I try whilst sailing the stars over the next few weeks?

I've always considered a lot of Philip Glass his work to be 'cosmic' in a way. Perfect for long trips into deep space.

And my personal favorite... though not Telemann (Standage. Always Simon Standage)

Oh, I forgot about Biber... His Mystery Sonatas especially (I like the Cordaria recording). Prepare to poop your pants over this one...

This Trio Sonata by Leclair is a treat... some beautiful counterpoint here.

To you, to you, father, husband, to Rome, to the world I offer my death...

Oh Hiroshima, Hubris(Apocryphal Gravity album is neat), Deru, Mogwai(their last album is alright, otherwise Young Team is always a safe choice), Tim Hecker, We Lost The Sea, Andy Scott, Aphex Twin, Plini, Animals As Leaders, Jeff Beck, Swans. Those are frequent on my playlists to accompany ED.

Mogwai's a very good choice.

I'm an Ozric Tentacles fan myself. It's trippy and spacey but not formlessly ambient, great drums and bass.

They also have a pretty huge body of work to shuffle through.

Does ED allow you to dump any music track into the game? Or are you having to 'outsource' the music you want to listen too? One of my favourite things to do in 'modding' a game is to 'enhance' the in game music wherever possible.

I'm currently playing my modded Distant Worlds Universe with 90% of the original music replaced with more ambient sci-fi synth music that i pulled over from the X games! The music from the X games is nearly 100% perfect for any sci-fi themed game and some of my favourite, so you could try using them yourself?

Awesome.

I'm playing on Xbox, so I'm running Spotify in the background. The selection on the service is huge. I'd be surprised if any of the recommendations here aren't on it.

Listen to the complete Ayreon Discography, with lyrics in hand, great music and story.
