I love how Celeste sounds in the store sample, but I'm not clear on what we get with the purchase; is it just a pair of new voices, or are there new dialogues, too?

To be fair, there would be a good amount of voice acting work to do a complete new voice for all of the ship alerts. That takes a bit of time, not to mention paying the actor as well (unless it was just done by one of the devs, heh). I honestly do think it should be slightly lower in price though. If it was $3 I think I’d buy it immediately, but as is I probably won’t bother unless it ever goes on a sale.

I have Celeste for VA, so I'm picking up the Celeste COVAS along with some paint jobs tomorrow. Now if they would have Celeste for EDDI. it would be a matching set then and happily surrounded by a French accent.

That accent is a little hard to place, but I would say Danish, not at all French. It's the dental fricative - french accent would be more "zis is Celeste", but its more like "dis is Celeste".

I imagine thats why they partnered with HCS - presumably for their packs they've already gotten quite a few of the phrases that would be necessary such as Landing gear deployed etc.so for frontier to make a slimmed down voice for the ship it wouldnt require much more recording work for the actor/actress

Sounds pretty reasonable to be honest.. Cheaper is always nice but this isn't too crazy, not as crazy as something have been in the past and we all just got a free extra voice with 3.0..

OP will be horrified when he learns how much the interactive version costs.

reminds me a bit of how originally engineered ships would look different from un-engineered ships but then that idea became ship kits.

They are an optional extra, if you don't think it's worth the price then that's fine.

All extras bought help to keep the game running.

Aren't people strange? I thought a fiver? I've got to have that before they put the price up! What does an HCS Voice Pack sell for these days?

Does make me wonder where some people live, can just about buy a beer for a fiver in a bar where I am. A fiver is a pit stop at mcdonalds..

Should get Bo to do a voice pack :)

There are many things that is expensive in the game..... this ain't one of them.

This is as optional as you could get considering they already are giving you another choice of voice.

Can we perhaps get a sticky topic for people to moan about the price of things? :D I mean pretty much everything that ever goes in the shop seems to put somebody's nose out of joint to the point that they can't just look at it, think 'nah that's a bit too much for me to spend on it' and leave it at that, but instead have to make a thread about it.

I'm not going to try to tell anybody they're 'right' or 'wrong' because as with everything in life we're all going to decide for ourselves whether we think something is poor value, or simply too expensive. To take a fairly obvious example though, although I have a 'How much?!?' moment whenever Apple release, well anything basically, I've never felt the need to stand outside their shops haranguing them about their prices; I just don't buy their stuff.

People talk as if FDev have the power here but as consumers we all have the right of absolute veto if we don't think a product is attractively priced and that's also ultimately what prompts change. That's exactly why ship paint packs are three quid now instead of the fiver they were two years ago.

I do think anybody who was seriously expecting a voice pack to cost 'one or two pounds' is off their head though. It's 2018 for God's sake, my daily paper costs 70p!

£5 seems a good price point.

I have to say my disappointment lies in the fact Frontier are charging £4 for a virtual string of lights (while 6 skins or 6 flight suits are generally £3, as are some of the special skins).

Feels like the lights should be a £1-£2 item a bit like engine and weapon colours.
