New Trailer - and one important question...

New trailer...

My question is - all this animation and voice acting... WHY ISN'T IT IN GAME?

Put it on a Comms panel? Talking heads on screen? Faces and story in game? All so important and lacking atm.

EDIT:

I don't understand why this wasn't in game either? This would have been more effective popping up in our ships rather than being dumped on Youtube. (It would also reach 100% of everyone in the game... rather than the percentage that found it online)

Honestly - great video. Got a real buzz from it - but it should be a gameplay thing. Voice acting, animations and story - what we all want!

...Are you making a game here or not FDev?

Probably because it's quite a bit more work to do in game than a one-off, customized cut scene.

I'm sure we'll see it some day, but FD apparently has a pretty big to-do list.

Got to attract SC customers :D They will buy the game .... then come to the forums in swarms complaining they are not in game, and FD will promise "something special" soon (TM).

She's a bit like Cmdr Thrust .... handling a normal conversation while taking on a Thargoid swarm .... something the rest of us do every day, of course, [big grin]

FDev to do list:

- Make cool cinematic that make the game look way better and more engaging than the actual game itself
- Colourize old assets like the one SINGLE SRV model in game, the one SINGLE clothing model, and the one SINGLE flightsuit model and sell them for quick cash.
- Get more excited about Crime and Punishment changes and engineering dice rolls rather than add new gameplay.

Roger that.

Completely agree with the OP.

While I enjoyed this cinematic video, for a few minutes I didn't even understand who this Ram Something-something was. And then I vaguely remembered that it's one of those engineers I'll never unlock because I don't even know of his existence, that information being locked by a certain Wai Tang (or Lo Tcheng, or something similar) that I didn't unlock either because I can't be bothered.

If I wasn't regularly browsing the forums, I would also be wondering what this big red star-looking ship was.

I guess I'll have to start using Galnet audio to keep up with news and such, but if it remains similar to my testing during Beta, I fear that listening to a computer reading bland news reports will become annoying relatively quickly

Thats your choice if you can't be bothered.

That's CMDR Thrust from Bradford, to you.

Oh, and he already has them and has been using them for weeks.

:)

So you've kept yourself willfully ignorant of one of the largest narratives in the game and this is somehow FDev's fault? Everything about this is covered in game...from the current CG's to recent and past Galnet articles. I've actually been OFF the forums a good bit because of the scale of info I AM getting in game lately.

I actually hate ED's cinematic trailers. I put off buying it initially because of the release trailer, which was just terribad imo. This one is cringe worthy, too. If I wasn't already into ED, it would convince me to stay away.

If you don't play the game then it's pretty clear you won't understand who these characters are in this video. Your refusal to engage in certain parts of the game isn't FD's problem.

Saying that, I'm not defending the fact they have a serious inability to tell a compelling story in game and haven't revised dated placeholder game mechanics even since the release of the game.

I'm certainly all for Voice Acted Comms. That would just be great.

I'd even welcome some cut-scene action, like was done with Hyperdictions in other areas, such as when first discovering something new, or as a prelude to something interesting. Take a look at the tutorials - they did a great job there with both voice acting and interactivity. If we had some of that actually in game... it would just be so far over the top it would take the light from the top 100 years to reach us.

I agree with a couple of these posts... the game play element of ED itself is not well thought out at all.

It's not transparent enough through the pathway of the game itself, it relies so much on external third party sources (Youtube - Obsidian Ant, Inara, Forums etc). If you could identify and access the thin storyline that is in the game by having the characters, animations, voice acting implemented there (rather than a sales tool) it would be a gamechanger! No pun. The game would leap forward!

I havene't use any of those myself. Really not needed them to do anything in the game.

Thats your choice if you can't be bothered.

Clarification, because as you pointed, what I wrote could be understood in several ways :

I can't be bothered to unlock the engineer part of the character of Ram Tah, because I'm not after the upgrades he offers. That's a gameplay thing, that I feel I don't need, so I'm not using it. That's indeed a choice I made.

However, making this gameplay choice of not bothering with the engineers also has an impact on my enjoyment of the overarching story in Elite Dangerous, which IMO should be completely separated from the gameplay elements locked being a grind wall.

If it was mentionned that unlocking Ram Tah is essential to "make the story progress" (as unlocking a quest-giver in other RPGs), I would have bothered, and unlocked him.

Then again, it wouldn't change very much, because the story is being delivered via Galnet text and community goals, which is why this thread exists, and why I felt like posting my opinion.
