An idea - how's about firing up the beta servers whilst the live servers are down so people can get a feel for the new release?
They run the beta during normal live operation so resources shouldn't be an issue - assuming its AWS hosted or similar
Think about it, only a few percent use Beta servers, the rest go on Live.
Take Live down and now everyone wants to go on the Beta servers,I bet they can't cope with the extra capacity![]()

Think further - you can spool up resources as required :-D
Why do that? If you missed the beta when you could play to your hearts content, then just wait a few more hours to get the new version on live.
Besides the beta servers would still only deal with the PC version, the console versions would still not be able to connect since to do that would mean releasing a new console version (I think).
Not worth the cost. That said, also not any where near worth the outrage, wailing and gnashing of teeth, rabble rabble that would ensue from those who don't read the Beat information, and they would complain about lost credits, being in a different place, lost the whole last week of progress, and all that, and then, when the game goes live, they'll all start up their righteous indignation trains about how the past few hours they spent on the Beta servers were wasted, disrespected, feeling all personally persecuted and all that crap that happens every single time...
Though I will say, there is some comedic value in all that...those types of people are kind of fun to laugh at sometimes.
Why not be able to do it? Wouldn't cause any harm and maybe some weren't able to participate in the beta.

If you leave the beta code on your PC after the beta is over the installer uses that as a cache and only downloads and updates new stuff that has been changed since the end of the beta. I can't imagine the installer would be happy you playing the beta at the same it was trying to access the beta folder to update the game.
ok, so beta is shutdown 1 hour before the download is made available.
Beta is for FD to find issues to fix for live. Zero point in having it up when it's too late to put code into live build. It's a few hours, play something else.
