HIGH YEALD SHELL... what is going on?

Well there is two/three more ship builds gone and I just can't craft another grade 5 of something oh no.... I got to upgrade every module from 1-5. Hating this update already and I have not even read thr patch notes yet...

What?

HYS nerfed!!!!....

Gonna have to find my python and see what they've done to my precious lvl 5 rapid fire/HYS mod cannons....... the ones that are so effective at popping modules once the enemy shield go down..

Bill

And if railguns have'nt been nerfed I'm gonna scream and scream and scream until I'm stick :D

Haha fair enough mate and cheers for not being a about it, you probably did a better job of that than I did :D I did wonder after I wrote it actually, a couple of lads I know at work are dyslexic, I should have spotted it really.

I've always thought it's particularly ironic that dyslexia is such a hard word to spell...

I wasn't actually taking the p by the way, I think OP realised that at least.

Allwaas trin too pise en sumwans Cheerios.

''Significantly reduced the damage and radius within which the High Yield Shell applies damage to internal modules''

And well.. everything

''small adjustments to the position of the penetration sphere (and making it smaller) to better balance high yield shell, deep cut payload and penetrator munitions specials - these should all be slightly less effective at their best, better on average, and overall show much more consistent results.''

Small... just a small adjustment.

I mean the results are more consistent... not so much ''better on average''

Ha! 50% reduction to damage for all my cannons! And screwing my existing g5 mods into oblivion but without offering any material or other refunds for what are now completely useless pieces of cow dung hanging from my ships, so that whether I like it or not I'd HAVE to convert them to the new grind-centric engineering system? What happened to letting the old grandfathered g5 mods be as they were, eh? What about the time I wasted engineering them in the first place? How about you too, FD instead?

I'm not going to bother firing up that crap at all, what with all of the magnificent bug-ridden fests being reported, because the beta that was supposed to test for such stuff was obviously completely useless, as always, at doing so... But hey, I could have spent 5Euro for the new cockpit lights, right? So they can cheer me up while farming for the stuff needed to re-engineer all of my cannons back into actually being able to shoot stuff? Let me go fetch my credit card... /sarcasm

Crap. I was looking forward to building a FDL with a size4 high yield Cannon for module crushing. Oh well....super penetrator I guess. Blah.

He could be dyslexic,so stop it guys...

edit : Ninja'd...

yes, I'm typing dyslexic sometimes also. Yet, it's just amazing sometimes it seems up to 25% of all new thread titles on a given day often have these gross misspellings.

As for HYC's. Well it looks like a slipup in division rounding or something. I'd think it'll likely be addressed and probably bug reported already.

Don't panic just yet. So far, the severe nerfing seems to be limited to the high yield shell effect specifically, not cannons as a whole. In the new system, you can switch to a different experimental effect while keeping your main effect, There's a one time drop from G5 to top-of-G4 when switching a legacy module to the new system, but this may be comparable to a basic G5 in the old system.

I may even keep my long range cannons at G4 for now if that gets them identical shot speed. The inconsistent aim point had been very annoying.

Some knucklehead must have put the "0.5 multiplier" in the wrong side of the equation. This applied it to base weapon damage instead of explosion damage and radius.....at least I hope so....otherwise someone went full on this one

Finally finished downloading the update,
booted up the game,
checked the stats on my cannons,
closed the game, guess I'll wait for next patch.

Makes sense. If they ever want to nerf shields, hull tanking will need to be viable. And if they ever want hull tanking to be viable, breach damage needs to take it in the shorts.

Firstly, I have engineered three fixed HYS cannons that have been severely affected by this...hence, I'm in the same boat as many of you!

But having said that...Jesus H, I really don't envy Frontier with this player-base when trying to balance their game. HYS cannons badly needed nerfing due to the insane damage they were doing to multiple internals. The easiest way to do this was to reduce the damage & leave the similar spread. Frontier have obviously tested this - not just a random nerf to annoy players - & implemented the current damage figures based on the number of hits necessary to inflict their chosen arbitrary damage levels on internals - this is the relevant change due to the specific nature of HYS, not the overt statistical reduction.

Maybe some tweaking will take place in forthcoming patches based on player feedback; but hopefully they'll only listen to Truesilver et al & not the general bunch of reactionary, self-serving toddlers that have been responsible for so many poor U-turns in Elite over the years.

My favourite post: "logged in - checked my cannon stats - logged out - ran to Mommy for a cuddle" [big grin]

That's why the effects explosion and radius damage should be beta tested with a 50% reduction, not reduce ALL damage by 50% once the effect is applied....but no....not tested in Beta....

There was a lot changes in 3.0, minimum some changes should have been made and tested by extending beta by a week... this is what happens when you have a lot of changes that "will make it to live" without proper testing.
