Hardware & Technical Game is choppy after 3.0 update

I've never really gotten much into the display settings stuff. I downloaded EDFX a year or so ago when I got my oculus but that's about it. Don't remember what settings I used but whatever I did seemed to speed things up. Ran at high res through most of version two.

After the 3.0 update, everything is crazy choppy. I used to be able to run it on "high", marginal on ultra, on my gaming laptop. Now it's even a bit choppy on "medium". I turned off shadows which seemed to help a bit, but it's painful because the new planet graphics look SOOOO amazing compared to before.

Any easy tips for a non tech guy?

I just dropped a note to a support thread, that on my GTX960 4gb, planetside performance got better. I'm usually getting 60 FPS on high/ultra settings (with some compromises on anti-aliasing and stuff), but near planets, lit side and looking down, it suddenly dropped to 30fps. It does happen also since 3.0, but not always. I wonder what causes such a sudden load...

Anyway, if anything, I experience smoother performance since 3.0. Easy tip from another non-tech guy is to refresh your GPU driver. :)

Ok I'll try.

See how high the planet generation time is set in your 3D settings, and try lowering it. That can give you better performance FPS-wise at the cost of a bit more visible terrain morphing.

Out of limited knowledge, the trickiest part is anti aliasing and v-sync, those require lots of resources - I'd check that. But again, 3.0 (if anything) improved the performance on my PC...
