Newcomer / Intro Reset targetting to route

This is probably a simple question, but one of those that's hard to express in a search.

I'm doing a multi-step route involving several star systems. At one I notice there's a nav point, so stop off to look for wanted ships.

I'm done (having survived a fight or not found anyone to shoot).

Now I want to continue on my route. But my target is set to the nav point rather than the next system on my route. At the moment I'm going back to the Galaxy viewer, finding the end-point of my route and resetting the whole route. Which is painful.

I notice in controls there's a control available for "Target next system in route". That sounds exactly what I need, but doesn't seem to work. Possibly because it's bound to the '#' key, and maybe there are some keyboard foibles that means it's not seeing that actual key. Can anyone confirm that that is what it's supposed to do?

Thanks

Yes I find it works most reliably if I have have a ship targeted or something that I targeted with target ahead rather than something selected via the Nav panel.

Just going to the map screen should replot the route from your current location.

You can also go to your navigation panel (Panel 1) and scroll down the list. The next system in your jump route will have an icon next to it like the one that appears in the galaxy map when you plot a route.

Click on the system with that symbol next to it and jump to it. The target will then be set automatically to the next system in your route and you can progress normally.

Since I'm flying HOTAS, I've remapped that function to one of the HOTAS keys and yes, in my case it does what I think it is supposed to do.

Example: I have a few kly route planned, and while jumping through the systems, I see a nice earthlike world I'd like to scan. I target the ELW, scan it, then hit my "select next system" button and continue on my route.

I use the " ¬`¦ " key (the one to the left of 1! as I can reach it with my thumb whilst the left hand remains on the throttle handle. - Works good for me. (Remember that if you press it again the nav target graphic disappears from the HUD - although you are still locked-in and the space-compass still aligns with the nav target.)

Thanks, all. I've remapped the key to R and it appears to work now. Good tips on the nav panel as well - I hadn't noticed that.
