To much new?

So I'm not someone who usually moans about this. I actually like that the game does not hold your hand. But with this huge update, all the news sights and features, I feel al litte lost. For instance, I am doing the Guardians Puzzel thing, but I have no idea what to do with it or where to drop it off. I saw something in the Galaxy Map filter about tech brokers for guardian stuff, but I didn't see a single system with that filter. Also, it is just a guess that I have to go there. I know, 'sandbox' and everything, but when actions require follow-ups, at least give me a general direction. Just give a 'this is new and this is how it works' sort of message.

"Too much new", sorry.

Take your time. Where's the rush?

No rush. I just feel lost. I have no idea where to get the new stuff. Everyone seems to know and upgrade their ship with guardian modules but I have no idea what impact it will have. It just feels like too much new, too little info about it all.

This will sound counter intuitive, but being lost and overwhelmed is a good thing in ED. I can remember my first 'proper' flight and understanding nothing, and feeling great after learning a little more each day. This patch reminds me a bit of that time.

I haven't finished exploring the 2.4 content yet. Having the new release adds a frisson of excitement: will the Thargoid bases behave differently now? Will the Guardian sites be populated with the AI that's been rumoured? I'm deliberately avoiding spoilers, so I can experience the new content for myself. I'm pretty sure I'll still have new things to do in 3.0 when 3.1 drops in late May.

It's all about the journey.

Greatest mystery to me so far is this orange cargo container symbol I have floating over a system in the galaxy map. No idea what it means or where it came from. Good thing this isn't a subscription based game, so I have all the time I want to find out what's it all about.

This is new to me. Is that a bug?

Partly why I am loving this update, right here. Though most of it is just how much new stuff we got and how interesting things are getting.

Isn't that showing you the system which you've selected to compare commodity prices with (instead of just "Galactic average")? I could be wrong.

Guys it's not about rushing. I have Guardian stuff but NO IDEA what to do with it. Nothing is happening. That is not fun. Patience will not help me. Looking on the internet will. That is my point..

Could be symbol for damaged starports or repairing starports?
In GalMap look on the right most tab.

I do get the "feeling lost" bit. I've not played for a while, and coming back in there's a ton of extra content and bits out there. I figure I'll get to it eventually, though. Or I won't. Some of the content has a time-sensitive element, and, if I miss that, it wouldn't be the first or last bit of such content that I've missed. The game is still playable regardless of how much content I engage with, and the amount to which I engage is limited by a) what I want to do and b) my time.

I'd much rather that the content be there and I don't have time for it all than it not be there.

It's a long running problem with Frontier- they create great in game content, then don't leave any kind of hint about how to access it. That leads to committed players getting frustrated and less committed players moving on to something less obtuse. Meanwhile this forum gets topped up with people complaining that there's nothing to do but grind.

If you have to consult an out of game resource to achieve something in game, then the game design has failed. Because if you're not able to do or achieve something in game with the resources provided by the game developer, then the content may very well stay permanently hidden from the majority of players. It's wasting development time and resources to fill the game with content no-one even knows about, much less uses...

Thank you, this.

Don't fret it. Most are wandering aimlessly in the dark like you. It's part of the Elite: Dangerous "magic"... Don't think that a small vocal group on an official game forum with the time and inclination to grind all the games secrets in any way represent the general Cmdr JoePublic.

Elite: Dangerous is NOT an accessible game. Plain and simple. If you want to learn the secrets, then stick around the forums and streamers. Don't be shy to ask. Lots of friendly commanders are eager to share their knowledge. Don't let the eggheads bother you.

Elite: Dangerous is dependent on the hardcore gamers to convey content to "normal" players. That's just the way the game works. Has since launch and seems integral to FDs concept for Elite: Dangerous.
