Are the new nVidia drivers ok? 391.01 released: 2018.2.26

Oooooo. New drivers. Have not tried this .....yet. I’m using 390.77 (think) so will keep an eye on this thread. Meanwhile I’ll look at the release notes.

Flimley

Has anyone used these?

Are they safe? Aparently the last few have been dodgy...

Thanks!

I am on 388.77 using a 1080TI, has been very stable for a while now. Will give the new ones a try (391.01) will report back if I find any issues.

EDIT - Very glitchy on my system, the HMD will sometimes pause. Rolled back.

Ever since updating (Timing with the 3.0 patch as well, so not 100% sure who the culprit is), I'm having trouble getting Elite to work with my Rift. The game will start, the Rift is working, but it never hands the game off to the Rift to run it in VR.

It may also be a problem with Steam. I'm still troubleshooting, but last night I got so angry at it I had to step away. I rolled back the nVidia drivers after I started getting this problem. Still having it. :/

I couldnt find a 388.77

There is a 390.77 and a 388.71

Would it be one of those that you are using now?

New setup of Oculus today advised 388.59 as newer drivers have problems (my oculus kept turning off after about 5 seconds or so with the latest installed)
Rolled back to suggested driver version and it now works ok..... very confusing.

Mine works fine with the latest.

Worth mentioning that the Oculus Support website still shows this:

Thanks, i was looking for ages yesterday i know i saw something about not updating, 390.77 for me i lost a bit of performance with this driver and 3.0 update (1080Ti GPU)
only updated for kingdom come deliverance but that game needs some patching.

Edit: Updated to the new driver 391.01 and got my performance back so new driver ok for me.

Edit:2 Had to roll back to recommended drivers (388.59) as was having the rift blackout at the guardian's runes.

The new drivers are working fine for me (and seem to have a minor framerate improvement), but I'm playing on a monitor, not a VR headset.

391.01 works for me. Installed it because of improvements for Player Unknowns Battleground.
Works with Dash Beta, no black screen or flashes etc.
Rift connected to GPU via HDMi to DisplayPort adapter
Always had windows fast startup disabled (Power Options). This seems to help.

Ugh..... I simply cant get a stable output from VR in Elite Dangerous, no matter what settings I use. All other games runs buttery smooth without issues, ED skips every 10, 15 seconds or I get tracking flashes. Considering I bought the Oculus especially for ED, I'm now starting to regret it.

Just as you install one driver, another one comes along - but this is a hotfix so it's only worth installing if you are affected by any of the issues listed here: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4639 or are having problems and want to try this driver for troubleshooting. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/410666-NVIDIA-GeForce-Hotfix-Driver-Version-391-05

Like I said in the other thread, I was having very similar issues and I fixed it by doing a Windows "Fresh Start". I had spent about 4 days and a list of about 25 troubleshooting steps that I'd tried. I'm not saying it'll fix your issues but if you have tried all other avenues like I had...

I could not get ED back to a stable state with nvidia 391.01. There were blackouts, stutters and even crashes. Using Win7 and a good old GTX690, still loving it and not too keen to change it.
-> Had to rollback from nvidia 391.01 and didn't want to go back too far. So I went for 390.77 which seems to be a mature build and works fine so far.

For me this was a rare occasion, the newest nvidia whql drivers are usually pretty simple and straight forward. Maybe it's because the minor version of 391.01 is still verly low and therefore the build is quite new.

391.01 smoother with no problems here.

Edit : ignore me I didn't notice the subforum and haven't jumped on the VR bandwagon yet.

I'm having a horrible time in VR now. Using a Vive with 1080 Ti and Core i7 7700K, 32GB RAM, Win 10 1709, Samsung NVMe.

Couple of months back I was running in VR every day, and aside from occasional frame skip (VERY occasional), it was great. Though I always had to leave async reprojection on. I did upgrade the NVidia Drivers to whatever were the latest at the time, which made every other frame stutter, so I rolled back straight to 387.92, which fixed the issue.

My settings were as shown (apologies for the enormity of the shots)

Now, playing 3.0.2 it's unbearable, constant frame skips when sat in the cockpit just looking around. Weirdly, if I click outside the Elite Dangerous Window so another program takes the focus, the VR experience becomes much smoother. No idea why - though as soon as I click back into the ED window, the frame drops all start happening again.

I even changed the preset in-game to VR Ultra (which I believe is lower than what I show above in Profiler) and whilst it was marginally better out in space, there were still an unacceptable number of frame skips in the station, where I had a much better experience before.

I know some of you folks have managed to create settings that allow you a consistent 90fps with no reprojection - I would dearly love to hear how you've managed that.

Any advice you can give me will be most gratefully received - I am reaching the end of my tether, quite frankly, and the Vive is starting to be shuffled toward my "sell this on eBay" pile.
