Chieftain Weapon options

This ship is fast turning into my favourite ship in the game. Am using it as a replacement for my Cobra MKIII smuggling/engineer salvage and criminal activity ship. Everything is fully engineered for stealth and hull tanking.

Undecided on the final weapons loadout. Currently using two G5 Long range plasmas with dazzle shell, the rest are reverb cascade torps for Open play. The plasma's are extremely satisfying, very easy to use FA-OFF (Have never tried long range before)

So I am thinking of possibly trying the focused PA's, but more importantly would like to swap those Reverb torps for something a bit more fun for PvE, any suggestions? No shields so I can keep plenty of cooing in the WEP capacitor.

edit - Also how do I get hold of those guardian plasmas?

Hi!

Yea great ship.

I am trying adding 2x Size 3 overcharged cannons with "force shell".
with 3x size 1 long range rail guns with "plasme slug"

maybe il change the plasma slug to something else (donno yet).

I haven't had the time to test it yet, but the idea was that i could use cannons to throw the target back and use the rails at a distance.

You'll need to first unlock them at a Guardian tech broker. See your galaxy map and filter for tech brokers. The requirements to unlock the various weapons and modules are here:

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Technology_Broker

After you've unlocked them, you can buy them in Outfitting.

Ok thanks, already have the tech brokers. I guess I have to visit these new guardian sites, wasn't actually planning on doing the puzzles etc, can I just visit up pick up the guardian tech required? Does shooting these new guardian skimmers drop needed materials?

Thanks

Just be aware that focussed PACs won't have a thermal load reduction if you roll them using the new system. If you plan on hull tanking you will be gobbling heat sinks to keep SR from melting you.

Thanks for the info, Am carrying 4 heat sinks with plenty of synthesis. It's not an all out combat ship, just selective strikes. I guess I could add Thermal Conduit when ever I am using focused.

Currently happy with the long range mod (shot speed makes a huge difference) it's more the other hardpoints I am thinking about, will likely just end up with OC multi cannons.

Currently trying out a rather exotic build, but I think pretty much anything played well can work on this ship. There are so many options it's hard to choose.

  • The C1s work well with long range rails, short range rails, enforcer cannons, missiles, mines, you name it, even cytoscramblers are pretty good provided you can stay close to your prey.
  • The C3s can work with Cannons, MCs, Beams, Plasmas, APAs, Frags, etc.
  • The C2 works well with PAs, rails, hammers, corrosive MCs, missiles, PHR, etc.

Combining all of the above into any killing machine that fits your taste is really what makes this ship so special. The agility is very similar to the much faster FAS, but the versatility of this ship really delivers a varied experience. Of course, the new engineer recipes are easy to max and easy to swap out experimental effects, so most of the ships in the game will give a variety of options now.

You'll need to visit Guardian ruins to pick up most of the Guardian material items - shooting down their skimmers, destroying destructible panels to collect the items inside and so forth. The data items can be collected from the Ancient Ruins which have many obelisks which you need to scan, and (AFAIK) no hostiles/skimmers, at least that I encountered.

Guardian ruins and Ancient ruins can be seen in your navigation panel as long as you are within 1,000 light-seconds of them. Check Ram Tah's recent message in Galnet to find three of the star systems where such ruins can be found.

3 small LR Rails, special of your choice (i'm trying 3 x feedback)

3 Efficient Beams Gimballed + Oversized.

Assuming you're not winged up the LR Rails are great for dealing with tough Anaconda's etc out of their weapons range and the beams are good for everything else.

If you're going all that way to the Guardian sites then you may as well pick up the mission for it from Ram Tah as it pays 30 million. Since the nearest site is about 700ly away, you may as well make the trip worth it. Just go to the Meene system and land at Mitchell Dock (it's an outpost btw), and you'll automatically get the mission invite in your inbox and transaction panel. The mission emails are fully voice acted too, which is nice.

Edit: As for my Chieftain loadout, I went for 2 large fixed canons, 1 medium gimbled pulse, 3 small gimbled burst lasers, for my little trial run, and it seemed to work well. Had enough power to keep all the lasers blazing away for a good long time even with just a couple of pips. Hadn't had time to do any engineering on any of it yet though.

Cheers for the good advice everyone.

I want to get better at aiming in FAOFF, so I was going to build a Chieftain with 3x Enforcer Cannons and 2x Long Range APAs. According to Coriolis they have very similar projectile speed, and those 5 hardpoints give great convergence. Might melt the ship, but it sounds like fun and death. Gotta wait a month before APAs, though :(

Medium hardpoint will need to be something that doesn't warm the ship up and doesn't suck on the WEP capacitor, like missiles/torps/mines. Or a railgun which would only be used to break shield cells.

When in doubt, buy 2! :D

Titan's Fury (Combat)
3 Small Railguns (all long range, super penetrator)
1 Large MC (Corrosive)
1 Large Beam (will be Efficient)
1 Medium Packhound Launcher.

The Dark Raider (Pirate/Salvage)
3 Small Beams (Efficient)
1 Large Frag Cannon (Overpowered)
1 Large Cannon (Long range)
1 Medium Missile Launcher.

Love the sheer flexibility this ship offers for loadouts. I just wish it had an extra module slot.

Build #1 must be a demon at module sniping. :D

Guardian tech turned out to be a whole other Engineer like Grind. Its just another time sink.

AFAIK, enzyme missiles do damage-over-time but too little to make a difference. Haven't tried them myself, this is what I've read.
