So the dark side of planets.

I thought it was just me, but yeah, the planets are nicely dark now. Coming in for a landing at Simmons' Progress was like diving into a dark well. Loved it when the faux lighting system didn't kick in.

Happy to see this too. One can experience the real darkness of space which can be relaxing or alternately frightening. Lights can stand out better with great mix of visuals. Perhaps an SRV could have an option to set up "lampposts" for one's own landing site. (which could disappear after you've left orbit).

This is great news. Although didn't I see a post from FDev saying it wasn't supposed to be dark, or am I misremembering?

Glad to know they've made the night side darker. I haven't seen a difference yet. But that may be because I'm in Colonia, which has more stars in the night sky, and the nebula.

It still lights up for everybody, not just Rift users. The amount of light is calculated based upon what is visible in the skybox. You'll find that when the galactic plane is not in full view, the lighting adjustment will be very minimal.

They left in the lighting source of nebulae and the if your night side is facing the bright galactic core, but the ambient effect is toned down to a nice degree.

No it's not like that. I come out of glide and as I approach ground(I am on dark side of planet) it all suddenly lights up.
At other planets it stays dark

Because the hugely bright Milky Way Galaxy was in the night sky of the planet you were landing on. To have a pitch black planet, the night sky of that planet needs to be facing away from the Galaxy.

Basically exactly what the guy you are disagreeing with posted. ;)

Yup, the degree to which it lights up is dependent on what is visible in the skybox, as I explained.
