General / Off-Topic Regarding "griefers" emotional reasoning behind attacks

selective blinkers?.. come back and repeat that once you've had a death threat issued against you or someone you care about. not one time have I ever had a threat from a person that can be called a PvP'er.. every single one of the threats against me were issued from PvE'ers. and yes, I did Gank, Ambush, kill them in game. but I never used a exploit, or a hack, and I never went after new players in starter systems. I did all of mine in legit fashion in areas that were considered fair game.

If they're on a PvP server, or in a PvP area, then they're not PvE players. Just thought I'd point that out, because your story seems a little contradictory.

now to the guy who got the threats from a PvP'er to wreck his website, I can see your point of view, but my experiences for me are quite different.

There are nutters on the internet, this isn't news and it's got nothing to do with PvE, PvPers or any other kind of gameplay. It's just nutters.

I once got a personally threatening response on a writing site for explaining to someone why using a lot of adverbs weakens your writing, and how to avoid using them. Does that say anything about bad writers?

Quite the opposite here ,ive had threats to destroy my websites and personal stuff in a very nasty way from pvp ers so it can be true .There are always two sides to a story but sometimes one is very wrong :)
I take it you had done nothing to deserve such threats ?

You honestly think someone could deserve threats against his life and family for something he did in a video game? He's not the one who's toxic man, I can tell you that much.

Stations are the only place that pirates can currently... pirate. There's no PC miners and no PC interdiction.

Until those are in anyone who wants to roll play as a space pirate has to do pirating at the stations that the big juicy targets all flock to. It's not like the victims are helpless either. Someone posted a video yesterday of their type 9 turning around and firing dozens of missiles into a pirate anaconda's nose and made him scurry back into deep space :D

Slight correction here; they're the only places you can currently pirate players. There are plenty of NPC traders that you can attack who will drop cargo at unidentified signal sources.

Just keep speaking up so you have a voice and let FD take care of it. So long as they know there is a problem then it can be fixed.

PvP is fine to a point, there are even designated areas where it is quite acceptable.

The problem is with people who feel they should be able to basically **** non combatants like they are NPC's with no concept of fair play whatsoever. The more skewed the odds in their favor the better and without retribution. It seems most of this specific type of PvP player feels that it is unfair to have police forces and bounties on them. They basically want a giant free for all deathmatch arena.

That is not what this game is about. Hopefully as new features are implemented it will be self regulating and those particular PvP players will have their behaviour reprogrammed in the process.

The game has already improved since PB. Back then I ended up leaving if another player was in the same conflict zone as me. Because 2/3 times someone on my own side would backstab me. Hasn't happened in a while. In fact I flew a hauler with no weapons for a couple of days in safe zones no problem. And now have a Viper with the stock loaned pulse laser for my fast courier service and go everywhere including less savory systems with only a little trouble.

The game has been petty tame since SB was released.

I agree it's been pretty tame since release of SB, although I myself am trying out piracy for the first time. Most definitely not the random killing of every ship I see, however.

I would like to note that I'm fairly obsessed with reading the forums, and I don't think I've ever seen someone express the point of view that there should be no police or authority reaction from killing other players. I would summarize the typical complaints as; "Don't let people block me", "Don't let people escape from me by logging out the instant things go sideways", and "Don't let people bring resources from non-pvp gameplay into pvp gameplay".

I'm sure I have missed some though. I'll admit some pvp oriented players do seem to want things skewed in their direction though.

I think the important aspect of the PvP equation regarding ED is the size of the play area. There are no past examples of a multiplayer game with this much room. It's a new situation and saying that this or that will happen based on previous games is a fallacy.

As long as the dangers from other players make sense and can be avoided, more players will decide to try ALL, and stay. A logical range of dangers is what's needed.

If commander PWNSULOL opens fire on my hauler as I'm approaching gateway station above Earth, the guy should be an ionized cloud before my shields are hardly scratched. Traveling and trading between high security systems should be almost as safe. At the other end of the danger spectrum are places where the barbarians can kill you and gloat over your death and no one cares.

You can't even corpse camp in ED. Why people are so worried about griefing? Random ganking is far from griefing imo. If a trader decide to put all his money in his cargo then its not a very smart move is it?

Anyone that cannot handle it shouldn't play mmo in the first place.

Back when I used to play WoW, I remember i tried ganking low lv. char with my alt rogue and got w.t.f. pwned with other other guy's main a few mins after. After camped me for 10 mins, he hop on another alter and give me tips on how to play rogue and best way to gank/camp lol. Good times.

When the SB was first announced there was a thread about the police response being a "Carebear" move even though a police response was always in the plan. Since the start of the game there's been people pushing for no crime to be recorded unless there's a witness. Even now there are still posts for "Self Defense" against bounty hunters. All of these arguments come with the "Elite: Safe" tag. Seems like a lot of people want to PvP with no consequence.

Lol solid argument. Thanks for explaining your point of view.

Allow me. You had stated that PvP and PvE people would NEVER repeat NEVER agree. You doubled down with some hyperbole about the fabric of the universe trembling if such a thing where to happen.

I have witnessed PvP people and PvE people agree. Therefore your assertion is incorrect. I do believe you pulled that directly out of your ass. In other words:

Pfffft: WRONG

Is that better?

Well this is certainly begging the question...

Enlighten me please, in your view what level of "misconduct" in a videogame would justify physical threats to someone's family?

I was wondering that myself. Please Wavey1, describe for us an action in a video game that would deserve or justify real world threats of violence.

If you steal someone's cloudsong...

all bets are off.

(look it up on youtube if you don't believe me)

Oh I definitely believe that some would consider it a justification for violence. There are plenty of psychos out there.

Definitely... that guy lost his sh....

To this day I always look for that video for a quick laugh and then about a couple of minutes into the rant I start to feel really concerned for humanity if people act like that over a game...

World of Warcraft at that.

Still pretty humorous to hear tho.... and terrifying

Oh man I just checked that video out. But I'm an A-hole I would have been baiting him instead of trying to calm him

"Awwwww.. Didums lose your shiny? Wanna hanky?"

I just have to ask, are we really going to pretend these people are "role playing pirates"?

It's not true in that other game and it's not true or going to be true here.
