EDProfiler - A New Display Switcher/Robust Settings Profiler/Switcher/Detector!

Hi Dr. Kaii

Could you please change ED's default green to
0.25, -0.03, -2
-2, 2, 2
2, 0, 0.57

The above settings will ensure correct colour tones for the humans of Elite whilst retaining a slightly warm green HUD.

Thanks for a great Application.

Completely New to VR here. I just got my Rift yesterday and got it set up. I really need help optimizing this. What is the difference between the VR settings in EDProfiler and the VR Settings that are included in game? Is one better than the other? Are they the same?

I am really struggling with reading thru all the materials, videos, posts I am finding on Oculus EliteVR. Knowing what works, what are current settings and need to be done, what are old settings and dont need to be done, etc.

I will post my rig when i get home tonight if that will help. Initially I have an OC'd MSI Radeon RX480 and an OC'd 6700 i5. Will post the exact specs later.

Radeon Software Version - 18.2.3
Radeon Software Edition - Adrenalin
Graphics Chipset - Radeon (TM) RX 480 Graphics
Memory Size - 8192 MB
Memory Type - GDDR5
Core Clock - 1303 MHz
Windows Version - Windows 10 (64 bit)
System Memory - 8 GB
CPU Type - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz (4.6 OC)

The settings in Elite and EDProfiler and one and the same, EDProfiler is a application which can without opening the game, 1). Detect the current game settings, and, 2). Modify current settings.
EDProfiler also allows one to create custom settings for 2D and 3D, I have a profile for 2D gaming and several different profiles for 3D gaming. If I'm going to play in 2D I open EDProfiler > select my 2D profile > apply settings > Launch Elite from EDP. If I want to play in 3D with my card oveclocked I open EDP > select "overclocked" profile > Apply > launch Elite from EDP.

If whilst playing the game I tweak the settings and I want to retain those settings for future reference, I exit the game, go to EDProfiler > Detect Current settings > save as new profile "xyz".
If I'm starting a new game session and want to try/experiment with new settings I first open EDProfiler > Modify setting > apply > launch Elite from EDProfiler. Once Elite is running its settings will be what EDProfiler told them to be.

I also used EDProfiler extensively to settle on a custom HUD colour scheme.

If Elite is always only played in the Missionary position and one doesn't want to change the HUD colour scheme then there's no need to use EDProfiler, forget about it.

this is weird, I edited the default 2d profile, applied it, and tried to launch the game from the profiler, but as it launches the game in 2d mode, it launches the oculus software as well, and it defaults back to some settings i didn't apply. When i put on my rift, it's saying "opening Elite Dangerous is taking longer than usual", but it's not even supposed to launch in VR? For some reason i don't understand the game applies some sort of default settings i haven't chosen

Help?

I'm trying to get a nice darker green base with purple enemies, not sure what I want my final color to be but I got a bright yellow right now. Kinda liking it other than the boot-up on one of the various interact screens [1-4 be default on mouse and keyboard] are still orange.

Anyone able to offer some suggestions?

Also does anyone know what the in game slide bar for FOV allows? I'd like to know it's maximum value and if changing them with this program will help me out any.

Has anyone else been crashing since 3.0 when trying to detect current settings? I haven't seen much forum activity from Dr Kaii in a while-- hopefully he's just been busy enjoying the new content :p

Yup.. tried to do a fresh instal and it's not working. Keeps say it can't find various files so I followed instructions on his site a few times re work around deleting files folders in app data etc and I still can't get the profiler to run as it can't find various files after installation

edit..: MY BAD... Bitdefender (Security) had blocked the access to ED Profiler files

Tis not the first time 'security' has done this without a MASSIVE on screen warning that it suspected something - arrrgh!
sorry:eek:

On my game PC I did a clean install without installing any third party "Anti This or That" software and disabled windows defender, Cortana etc, anything that is not essential to the OS or gaming I disable and anything that might cause a interrupt is disabled , (manual updates), this way the're no third party interrupts for the CPU to process or a false positive with a flag because the file isn't on the "Anti This or That" whitelist, or even worse a false positive with no flag, Go "Commando", let your CPU breath pure bits.

I don't use my Game PC to surf the dark net and I don't install software which isn't relevant to my games on it, I've a separate cheap android tablet for surfing the dark net. and a separate cheap notebook for banking only, my banking notebook only goes online when I need to do banking. Keep all important data in true crypt.

If my PS4 can function without "Anti This or That" software so can my Game PC and it functions perfectly.

Hi Dr Kaii,

I have a single install of ED with two game accounts. Some players have more. The simplest way to use each account is to copy "launch.exe" and enter the user details for the second account and make another desktop icon. This only needs to be done once. To play ED I then just click on the desktop icon for whichever account I want to use.

I used EDProfiler all the time when I had one account, but haven't used it much since as it only permits a single path for the ED launcher to be set. So I can set the path to the ED launcher for one account, which it will then open by default, but I still need to click on the ED icon to use the other the account (or reset the path in EDProfiler).

It would be nice to be able to use EDProfiler for both accounts. So my query (read request) is whether there is a chance of having an option to set the path to the ED launcher on a per profile basis? I imagine this would mean keeping the default path to "launch.exe" which will be used whenever the option is not selected. If the option is selected, then the profile can use a different path to say "launch2.exe", which can be set by right clicking on the launch button at the time of creating the profile.

A practical example would be - Profile A could use the default path set to the ED launcher for account "A", profile B could have the option selected and path set to the ED launcher for account "B". Profile C could use either of those or point to yet another account, etc. I accept that this is a just a convenience thing for players with multiple game accounts (and who use more than one ED launcher) and it doesn't add much by way of functionality, but I could then use EDProfiler to launch the game regardless of which account I choose and it may also make EDProfiler a little more attractive as the "go to" app for launching the game. :)

I am trying to install the EdProfile program but my windows security settings are stopping me. On top it says"Your administrator has blocked thhis application because it potentially poses a security risk to your computer." On the bottom next to a red shield it reads"Your security settings do not allow this application to be installed on your computer." There is no link saying "more" or any way to override the warning. I tried going into my Windows 10 Home version settings and even changed over to develepor mode which should allow me to install programs as long as thy're signed but I'm still getting the same error message. Does anyone know the way this can be altered or overridden? The only operative button on the warning is "close". Anyone know how to change the security settings correctly so i can install the program? Would appreciate any and all help with this.

You could use the 'Custom files' feature to do this. Add a custom file pointing to EDLaunch.exe. The Launcher would then of course run when you hit Apply. You would need one profile for each account. Just tested it, it works.

I would like to add a second account to my single install of ED. If you wouldn't mind explaining, how do I do that? I have a friend who wants to p lay ED on my rift and I don't mind that but would like for himm to have his own account so he's not blowing up my ship in the initial days of playing.

Don't think so. Test it some more.

If you just use EDLaunch.exe, then you are in effect using one ED account (with different profiles). You need to have a separate launcher for each account OR log out of the launcher and log back in whenever you change accounts. I don't want to do that so I use a separate launcher for each account - EDLaunch.exe for account "A" and EDLaunch2.exe for account "B".

EDProfiler would need to be able to point to the right launcher for the right account. ATM EDProfiler assumes a single account as it uses the following approach:

- The "path.xml" file points to "EDLaunch.exe" by default. You can change this, but there can only be one launcher specified in the path.
- A custom file pointing to the default launcher doesn't add anything. EDProfiler will open it anyway (and the account will be the last one logged on to the game using that launcher).
- A custom file pointing to a different launcher will not open it the because you can't have two launchers open at the same time. Will just get an error message to that effect.
- If you simply delete the launcher name from path.xml, EDProfiler will prompt you to locate the launcher every time you push the "launch" button.

So if you have two accounts, EDProfiler would need to select the path for launcher (account) you want to use. This could be done by having the option, when creating a profile, to set the path to be used with that profile.

You just need to buy another copy of the game through FD store using a different email address (and password if you want). Once you have completed the purchase you don't need to download the game again. Just go to your existing game and copy the "EDLaunch.exe" file. Keep it in the same directory, but give it a different name. Then make an icon so you can open it from the desktop. When you click on the icon the new launcher will open and prompt you to login. Enter the email address and password for the new FD account. FD will then send a verification code to that email address as normal. Enter it and your done.

So the net result is you still have a single game install, but if you click on the original game icon, it will open the game for your original account. If you click on the new icon, it open the game with your second account. Don't worry about overwriting game data. Separate game data is automatically generated for each account. This also has the advantage that when ED is updated, you only have to update the one install for both accounts.

@AD - I don't think you are understanding. I think you are assuming that you still use the Launch Elite button but like I said, with my proposed method you don't use the Launch button in EDProfiler at all, the Custom file starts the launcher when you click the Apply button. Yes you would have 2 x EDLaunch.exe, one for each account. So in EDProfiler you would have the following:

profile 1 - Custom files runs EDLaunch1.exe (which contains the login details for account #1)
profile 2 - Custom files runs EDLaunch2.exe (which contains the login details for account #2)

I've just tested it, it works (care needed: EDProfiler is a little fickle when adding Custom files). If there's a problem with already having one launcher running, then either close it manually first or add a command to kill the open launcher in a batch file as a 2nd Custom file. Simple.

There is actually another way, you could have a single profile with a Custom file pointing to a batch file which prompts you to choose which account you want to log in to (I actually use such a batch file to choose between my 3 PC accounts, but not through EDProfiler). It uses a single launcher, it's a little fiddly to set up the first time and you need to update files each time there is a new launcher version but it works well.

You're right, I didn't pick up on the "apply" button step. Will give it a go thanks. :) A batch file to choose which account to login to doesn't sound bad, assuming it could also be done through EDProfiler using a custom file.

P.S. If I can bypass the "launch" button, will try a "custom" batch file that opens all of the programs I use in sequence - The Oculus Tray Tool .exe (which also starts Oculus Home), then Voice Attack and then the ED launcher. Then hit "play" when ready.

P.P.S. Was able to put the above batch file together and include it as a custom file for single profile. Thanks for the tip Main Sequence. :)

There should be no reason why this app FORCES this godawful HUD colors. They are uselss in VR. I wanted to revert back to defaults, so I open the GUI editor, choose default but it doesnt save the settings. So I have to create a preset, except the preset doesnt save the colors correctly (last color field is left empty). If I click on GUI Editor the app crashes. Frankly I dont care about all this custom HUD crap and dont need it. Proves to be nothing but trouble.

Hi guys, been really busy recently but plan on getting back to everyone soon.

As for the last post, EDProfiler forces nothing. As for why it's crashing, I would have to see that error message. Email it to me: kaii@dr.com
