Beyond added more need for a web browser

As far as I understood, one intention for some Beyond design decisions was to release the requirement for using a web browser, e.g. by extended in-game trade info.

Now, with material traders (and probably tech brokers?) they put salt into my wounds: While materials traders are not that close to the engineers as one would expect in an economy, they also have dedicated stock (like "encrypted data trader" or "manufactured materials trader"), which isn't on the system map. Trial and error.

What sense makes a material trader who I seek longer than rare materials? Don't these guys advertise?

In terms of gameplay, what is the idea to make these guys hard to find (same question for ships, modules, ...)

You can see it on the map actually. Refinery/Extraction systems have the Raw Traders, and the other 2 trader types each have specific economies that they are located in (dont know them right now)

Ahh, that's a good hint. Thanks.

Actually there is a filter for each type of material trader on the galaxy map.

Actually? I looked for that, but must have overseen it. I'll check again

Shhh, never let the facts get in the way of a good whine.

Shhh, never give serious answers when a fanboi can point fingers and blame.

I'm with you on this one, OP.
Why you have to go to Wikis, patch notes, forums and Reddits to find out about it, instead of it being clearly described in the game, is beyond me. (pun unintended :p)
Turns out it's the exact opposite: this information is everywhere, all over the Internet, EXCEPT for the game itself. The one place where it should've been all along.

If you have patience until I leave from work, I'll leave a reply with pointers and graphs and everything.

That'd be an awesome piece of community support, thanks! Although I guess I'm gonna find it now that I'm more certain about its existence (I guess I simply resignated too early while thinking they didn't implement that), I think you could also help other people who are blind in the same way.

Whilst it would be nice to have all this content in-game, I think it is just the nature of modern day gaming to have to refer to third party sites/tools to understand stuff. I've spent hours and hours and hours referring to Skyrim, WoW, Witcher et al forums to learn about stuff that wasn't explained sufficiently in-game.

The first thing I did personally was look on the map for material traders. But for some reason they don't show up in the sorting. It's a shame, really....I was looking forward to get off the web browsers, but I guess it's not happening for now.

Never needed a web browser to play in the past and won't need one in the future.

It really depends on how you play. I have really no clue how some (awesome) CMDRs found barnacles by themselves. Must have taken hours and weeks. Playing without a browser means you need the (historic) information about barnacle findings (which is probably not in the Galnet anymore I guess, so you must've been a player at that time). Then you start searching every square meter of the planets in a given region. Literally. Fly slow and low. There is no POI display at barnacles I believe. No clue how I am supposed to do that with limited lifetime and no web browser. No clue how some CMDRs even found several of them. For me, the only realistic chance was to find out about barnacles on the internet, then fly to the exact given surface coordinates.

Other times, I just want to play something special and need a module. Where do I find a luxury passenger cabin nearby? Just searching all tourist starports in the region takes more time than I have to play. Good thing there's module storage nowadays, but most of the time, EDDB is my savior.

I agree it's generally okay to read guides and lore offline. But finding things in game (modules, some materials, rares, certain missions, the knowledge which exact engineer I have to upgrade for gaining acceess to the engineer I actually need) is too tedious for me sometimes. As VR player, this is even more annoying, as it either involves to use a quirky virtual desktop or taking off the goggles.

The only time I use a website (Inara) is when I need to know which materials I need for engineering and how many.
If FD would cover that in the coming codex then I'm good.

In between I've read that in map view you only can find services of stations where you've already been. They need to be in the personal records. Is that correct?

Heard that too but it seems it's not true. What I've noticed is that it only shows those in a small area around you.

That would be okay if the radius was large enough to enable finding a trader, at least most of the time. Will check when I get to playing (probably not before weekend). Thanks for the screenshot, btw. Can't rep you more.
