Modes Will 3.0 Increase, decrease or have no effect on Open population?

I play lots of MMO's as a matter of fact I am also responsible for changes in the grand daddy of them all.

You know why? Because I bring math, Video proof, Screenshots and more. I dont just whine that I want the game changed. I show the need for it.

And im sorry but when it comes to player factions vs player factions it is that game. They purposefully put in things for players to duke it out. They purposefully balance the game around PVP activities.

And you need to get it.

Because that is what they are doing.

Says the grown adult using a cartoon horse. Kick rocks.

So you made changes in the "Grand Daddy" of them all? And yet you don't name it?

I highly doubt that.. you keep saying you are responsible for change in Elite Dangerous yet all the changes you want are all vaporware... And you say I need to get it yet Elite Dangerous has yet to balance ANY part of the game aside from CQC around PVP activities nor has any MMO other than FPS which Elite isn't even close to. You want to know how I know this, because I was a Beta tester on many of them, I made changes too. But the difference in us is that I don't crow to everyone and pat myself on the back and head for it.

As for showing a need for change... you haven't all. Your "Proof" hasn't shown a NEED for anything. It is the equivalent of a flat earther doing all the math and producing videos and screen shots and "proving" that the earth is a disc not a globe..

The problem with that is, once you log into Open you're already agreeing to PvP attacks from other players. Signing up for a Power would make no difference.

I always felt it was also partially Sandro trying to highlight the difference between the ''noncensual' pvp/piracy that the forum community railed against so heavily i.e. 'I did not consent to this interaction, piracy is like real life sexual assault' histrionics that were common up until about 6 months or so ago by trying to point out that in powerplay youre competing against another team of players, so your death is fair game.

The problem is how you take the term 'consensual' though, because to me that means 'you signed up for Powerplay, so you're agreeing to PvP attacks from other players' rather than 'you signed up to powerplay and can choose to avoid interacting with your opponents.'

Well when you view it in context with the rest of the game, it seems daft to highlight it is consensual.
As you've got to be in a multiplayer mode to be shot at in the first place.

As was mentioned though, for PP alone, it removes the becoming a "criminal" element does it not?
So by "consensual", that just means NPC police won't be swarming all over you and your fencing partner.

Thats why I didnt ask you old chap, but asked it at mouse :).

I know, it was more me thinking out loud, but with my finders on a keyboard.

I actually forgot you could PvP in SW:TOR. Which is kinda why I drifted on for a moment then.
Was it any good?

Its world of warcraft.

And Lately League of Legends. like 3 years ago when I was heavily involved in that.

See Ive been dealing with balance changes, NDA's and all sorts of stuff for a very long time.

And the same things that are happening in this game, has happened before.

They way people communicate and interact with each other. The way developers curve and mold the game to be played a certain way. Certain playstyles.

Bottom line is this. You simply cant have PVP in a game where its optional to fight over objectives. It renders PVP to be obsolete in this case, as we see here in Elite. And PVP is for Griefing. Or people Feel Griefed when it happens because there is no definition for it. Since everything can be completed safely in other modes.

I dont know what they have up their sleeve. But I can promise you this from my past experiences in working with Game Devs.

Instead of PVPers fighting other PVPers. Its come down to PVEers vs PVPers and anyone that PVPs in the bad guy IRL because they blew up a space ship. So people go into solo and private like that guy mentioned above.

There is literally no reason to engineer or PVP or join open for that matter. Because there is no meaning or definition behind it.

Pretty straight forward.

And if you guys want to continue to fight against it. You're only hurting the community in doing so.

The difference is while there are thousands of people asking for these changes because they see the same thing. We have the hateful 8 here on these forums trying to stop it. Not knowing they are fueling the fire that is griefing.

They arent going to do away with PVP AT ALL. They are going to encourage it. And they have been saying it this whole time.

Ya'll are just too blind to listen.

It's not flat and it's not a globe either.

It's an oobleck spheroid :p

I think you have to consider consensual PP-PvP as a two step process. Because PP doesn't force you to operate in open, you have to both join a PP Power, and log-in in open. To a reasonable poster I can concede that there is a discussion to be made over PP and what mode you play in. I think that there could be an argument that actually facing PP foes in open should garner some specific rewards. I don't advocate to make PP open-only, just that some meaningful gain be rewarded for actually besting an opponent.

Just giving a bonus to participants in open is too easy to manipulate, and giving a benefit for the chance at more opposition doesn't sit well. Offering a real benefit to actually engaging in PP-PvP seems fair, and would/could go a long way to alleviating some of the perceived advantages to PPing in Solo/PG.

You take that back!

LMAO

WOW is not and never has been "The grand Daddy" of MMOs.
It was out in 2004.

MMOs as we know them started in 1996 with Meridian 59. It wasn’t until 1997, with Ultima Online, that the genre started to become popular.

Was 'The Realm' considered an MMO? I played for a while, but interweb peeps were weird to me then.

Any game where PvP'ers feel impotent they turn on PvE players.
We used to get it in STO, it used to happen in Warframe, even with the WOW forums PVP'ers used to be nasty towards PvE players on PvE servers.

PvP'ers having to go play with themselves makes them nasty.
This is nothing new.

There is literally no reason to engineer or PVP or join open for that matter. Because there is no meaning or definition behind it.

You engineer because you want to engineer. Like most of Elite, that content is optional.

The difference is while there are thousands of people asking for these changes because they see the same thing. We have the hateful 8 here on these forums trying to stop it.

And there are trillions of people happy with the mode system.......

Oh sorry, were we done making up numbers?

The only "hateful" people we see on the forums is you and Algo.
Everyone else is quite chilled.

No idea, I knew WOW wasn't the oldest MMO so I hit up Google for the correct "Granddaddy" of MMOs.

I think most consider UO to be it.

Its definitely not the eldest, but its the one that set the template most have since tried to ape.

Worse thing they ever did was ruin star wars galaxies by trying to copy it.

Glad someone mentioned Ultima. I think.some of the more hysterical.of this.community would be shaking uncontrollably at the antics I got up to in that joyous experience.

Dang it... out of Rep.

BTW, I'd say the "grand daddy" of the modern MMO was the original Neverwinter Nights (1991) myself. Back in those days, you payed by the hour to play an online game.

Was 'The Realm' considered an MMO? I played for a while, but interweb peeps were weird to me then.

Yes it was. I played that before Ultima Online game out. I could play it for hours, because AOL had recently gone to a monthly subscription!

These are words to live by. Trust me.
Ok, I have to ask, being too old to meme properly, what does this mean? It's obviously false, I escape games all the time. Sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently. You can't get to me in Elite either, because I have absolutely no desire to play with anyone else. Until your gank squad or whatever it's called figures out how to invade solo like they do Mobius, I'm golden. And even that would happen exactly once, and guess what? I'd escape the game.

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA... ok really, did you write this sober?

WoW is not nor ever been the "Granddaddy" of MMO's... if you ask most they will say Everquest. But even before that was Ultima Online, and heck there were probably lesser known ones and if you want to get technical then MUDDs were MMOs and I have been alpha and beta testing since them.

You worked on WOW.. wow.. so did myself and many others. You were not the only Alpha (if you were that early) or Beta tester. I'm not going to sit here and compare who worked on what MMO and made massive changes if any at all, so please don't kid yourself and think you are special and so more knowledgeable than others.

And "Hateful 8" Why thank you... it is nice to know when someone can't come up with real logic they start nicknaming those who are on the other side of the discussion in a way to make them seem "less" then you.

Oh... "Bottom line is this. You simply cant have PVP in a game where its optional to fight over objectives. It renders PVP to be obsolete in this case, as we see here in Elite. In Ultima Online, it was optional to fight over objectives, in Everquest it is optional to fight over objectives, in WoW, in EQII, in SWTOR, in SWG, in CONAN, in Asheron's Call, in AC II, in City of Heros/City of Villians, in almost all MMOs that are not matched based FPS type it is "OPTIONAL"... PVP in NONE of those games or in Elite changes the sway of the game what so ever. The only game I can think of off hand that it had a slight impact on was the original Guild Wars where whoever held the Arena, for the time that side held it, anyone on that side got a small exp buff or something.

We are not blind... we hear you fine, but you are the captain who, when told the strait is too shallow, swears at everyone and beats their chest demanding they know more than anyone then shreds the bottom of the ship and runs aground..

Its definitely not the eldest, but its the one that set the template most have since tried to ape.

SWGEMU is bringing back the original, And some of the offshoots have been pretty good. Sadly they don't have JTL working yet.
