remote wrokshop

So I have Farseer to level 5 in the new engineering system and have pinned the level 5 range blueprint. I am in an asp with a vanilla 5a FSD and docked at a station, thought I would use the remote workshop to upgrade the drive to level 5 but it says I have to unlock from level 1??? Whats the point of that? do I have to level up the remote workshop to level 5??? .why would I ever think of doing that?

Lol,

no now you have to level the module you are upgrading from Lvl 1to 5!

Your Lvl 5 relationship with Failcity will mean the number of rolls to unlock the next level will be reduced.

The final maximum result is guaranteed better (for FSD, other modules may vary especially PA weapons) than those achieved after 1000 rolls on the old system. Blind Pew has done a video where he took a factory fresh FSD and engineered his Anaconda to 70ly range beating his God Rolled 2.4 module by 6Ly!!

I managed to completely max out my brand new Chieftain with all new modules to the max in about 1hour, including some trips to various material brokers and some judicious hooping around in an SRV to collect some Selenium.

If the module doesn't have a blueprint applied, or you want to apply a different one, then you have to start from grade 1 and complete each part. The first two grades should only take one or two rolls, though.

Being at level 5 rep with the engieer means you can get your modules up to level five.

But you still need to gradually upgrade it from level 1, for each module (even at the engineer, not just at the remote workshop)

Each time you upgrade, be sure to check if you can move onto the next level, you can move onto the next level before maxing it out for each level.

However, the main problem with the remote workshop, if the fact you cannot use it to convert grandfathered modules over to the new system, which does the opposite of what was stated, which was to encourage conversion to the new system.

wow surely that's not right? That literally defies all common-sense... then again Frontier.. so even though I have the level 5 done on a previous ship I have to go from level 1 -5 on every ship again on every module???.. seriously ? who the heck thought that one up? I mean yeah you're guaranteed the best result but christ the amount of mat farming I'll need to do just for point percentage more.. sod that. Talk about misreading the patchnotes....I thought for once I would actually save time on something in this game. Oh well at least I can take a break from work tomorrow by going to do my actual real job.

I think people are misunderstanding the OP's issue. He has grade 5 unlocked, but he can't access higher than grade 1 remotely even when G1 is completed.

I had a similar issue with multiple HRP mods being capped at seemingly random levels for remote engineering (2,3,4 etc) and had to go to the engineer base to finish my upgrades. It was almost like there was a limit to the degree of remote engineering I could do and I was eating it up some unknown reserve quantity with each module upgrade. The first one capped out at 4, the second capped out at 3, and the last one capped out at 2. Was very strange. When I landed at the engineer, I verified that I had G5 unlocked, so that wasn't the issue. I was able to upgrade the same modules without issue at the engineer base. Not sure if it's a bug or an intended mechanic to limit remote engineering. If it's intended, then FD should spell it out in the patch notes or make a video explaining why. Otherwise it would just be frustrating and confusing to any player attempting remote engineering.

I suspect that it's a bug, kinda like the material limit being reset to 100 when you visit a mat trader.

I just figured that pinning the blueprint just allowed you to get your mod up to G5 without having to visit the engineer. So if I got a new FSD for example on a new ship, I could just save the time and mod out the FSD from G1 to G5 while not travelling to Farseer and saving that time. Seems it would be good with the FSD and for Palin so you just don't have to travel out that far...

Somebody didn't play the beta :) (although you're maybe Xbox/PS4 so fair enough).

Actually when you get into it, it's way way better than the old system, and materials brokers and the remote workshop makes upgrading really easy compared to how it used to be.

You need to get to the engineer herself (either of them that offer level 5 FSD) for guaranteed results. I had a disappointing experience at the Workshop .... although in Beta it worked fine with the freebie iron ! There's a subtle diffference in the mechanism between the Beta and 3.0 , not sure what it is, but it's caught some of us out.

As usual, if you want the job done right, go to the professional, not one of these backstreet wrokshops ;)

True but your going to want to do the "speciality" as well so you may as well just go to the Engineer anyway and do it... Seems a bit pointless, I imagine it's useful for people in colonia but for me well I'll just take the ship to the engineer...

It's useful to do most of the engineering, then just add the special later, instead of having to travel to every corner of the bubble every time.

That's what I'm thinking, especially with the FSD. Getting that just done on a new ship first, allows you to get a decent FSD from the start and making that trip to Farseer to begin with just a bit shorter and thrusters will help just for the initial part before making the long journey out. So I do see the benefits of having the remote access. I'll be using them for at least Thrusters and FSD temporarily on new ships...

But to get the pinned blueprint you need to be at the engineers anyway, so might as well put the special on then and there and not need to go back. Of course if you already have it pinned and you don't need to go back to the engineer, just visit when you are in the vacinity.

Yes, for sure, unless you don't have the materials right then, but are nearby the engineer. Or perhaps you want to pin overcharged Multicannon, but want to engineer some railguns right now.

Lot's of reasons to use it.
