Deep space? Isnt shipping lanes better? Also keep in mind what state/security the system is in, it makes a difference.

Apologies in advance for the very noob question. I’ve often seen I’m in a “shipping” lane while I travel to a port but have no idea how I got onto it...

1.Is it the shortest path between the local star and a dock?
2.is there any way to “see” them in the gridlines (similar to a space stations orbit line)

Certain things drop in shipping lanes, others drop only in Deep Space. You can't generalize.
Some drops (especially grade 5) are determined by multiple factors - system state, system economy, Allegiance, AND the location within the system you found the USS.

So, if you want something specific, you have to know all of the factors relevant to that item.
Of course people can luck into the right system without really knowing why, then they make assumptions about what mattered to get them, but they usually come away with partial information and then spread that on the forum...

Yes, just imagine straight lines running from each Star, Station & Planet Docks.

No way to 'see' them though.

You can generalize as much that these days, due to downward trade rates, it is much redundant to hunt other USS than HGE

Btw guess the fix isn't that minor since we're still offline. Bummer.
