Baby it's dark outside! OKAY - not always!

Baby it's dark outside!

I suppose all the "mah immershun" peeps are happy that the SRV no longer has "light-intensifier" canopies. Personally I think it is jobbie:

EDIT - OKAY - it was down to the galaxy being under the horizon, reducing ambient light, sorry. Nothing to see here - move on (ignore the embarrassed OP sitting red-faced in the corner...)

Gimme back my light planets. ;)

The darkness is ok, that is more realistic, but FD forgot to boost up the shiplights. At the moment, its more like the light of my smartphone, but 1000W lights are needed insteat.

Ive always thought my driving was way better on country back roads at 2 in the morning doin 60 with the lights turned off...I mean what could possibly go wrong?

We need night vision, infrared, and/or a wire mesh overlay of the terrain that we can switch on and off. Personally, I want my high tech space ship to not be hindered in the darkness. We aren't hindered by it today.

I posted a screenshot without headlights (yes of course I blinking well know about them, thank you) to illustrate (sorry) how stupid the new "darkside" levels are. You just can't see owt, you are reduced to following wavescanner signals and not able to head for specific features until they appear on your scanner if you wind the range out and are not blocked by being on a steep slope.

I honestly think it is stupid, unecessary and it is straining on the eyes and hope the "immersion" peeps (I don't care about your opinion Backelaer, I'll use whatever non-insulting terms I like) are happy.

It just means I shan't be driving on the darkside again, I'll just recall ship and move around to the light.

Protip: turn on the headlights for a more illuminated experience.
Availible in both full and half modes.

Unfortunately, the headlights on both ships and the SRV are currently coupled to the lighting model for the planet. So the darker the planet, the lower output your lights have.

Pretty damned lame not to have caught that in internal testing FDEV! Obviously, the darker the planet surface the MORE LIGHT we are going to need from our ships and SRVs, not less!

Better yet... How about a simple consistent Light Level for ship and SRV headlights that doesn't change from one planet to the next? That would be nice. And you know... realistic.

[rolleyes]

I fell into a canyon when dark-side surface prospecting pre-3.0, I've avoided dark-side driving with the exception of Orrere 2B since the update.

I think it was Farseer's I landed at when the update hit, big antenna in the middle with a small revolving light (like a lighthouse) on the tip, nearly crashed into that it was so dark and the lights were so dimly lit, haha.

They could do with an illumination boost from man-made lighting for sure.

yep it's stupid that the dark side is dark. What logic :p

What the SRV's need are some proper military level lights, that make some damn good light and not those "home made" flashlights from the 80's that our ships and SRV's currently have. There are hendheld lights today outperforming these pity ingame ones. And we better not think about, well night vision modes which explorers would probably have, because this seems to be off the charts of the ED's universes technology.

There is no need to be rude. Previously we either had some form of light-intensifier in the canopy structure or we had enough ambient light from the galaxy etc to at least make out features. Now it is impossible to see features beyond the paltry headlight provision. You might think it more realistic but there is no need for it.

There is no reason that we can't have some form of image-intensifier device in the 34th century - so please stick your tongue back in.

Your initial picture shows complete blackness, which combined with your comment "Mah Immurshun" makes you look like you're exaggerating and which some people might construe as a slight on those that think immersion is the #1 reason to play a game that has no actual gameplay.

I'll just point out there are flickering fluorescent light tubes in the hangars...
Lighting tech was lost somewhere, apparently.

Yeah, some kind of a high tech image intensifier thing. Like this one I heard of, called the naked human eye, which is capable of adapting to starlight conditions under a clear night sky.

But what would I know, I went blind long time ago from staring at all those suns while parked right next to them.
