Modes Will 3.0 Increase, decrease or have no effect on Open population?

Before the Felucca / Trammel split, or after?

I hated Felucca... could barely do anything without some dipwit PKing you .... one time they brought out a dragon they had tamed while in town and then released it... it killed everyone. They had to nuke it so to speak. After that they made it so you couldn't pull a pet out while in town.

Anyone remember "Trade Wars"?

And boom.

People Openly bragging about board flipping and skimmer mission stacking for 100 million or more an hour (some saying up to 350 million) and Frontier have locked out skimmer missions.
People going nuts on Reddit and in EDC Facebook because they cannot accept skimmer missions (but other missions from that station are working fine).

Now for a credit rollback and I'll spend all month laughing. Because that was clearly broken so using it was clearly cheating.
Come on Frontier, give me something to laugh about for the next month :D

Keep dreaming.

Noone is taking muh money!

Apparently so.

Interestingly the single PvP realm model only lasted about two and a half years before it was split into Trammel / Felucca - apparently due to haemorrhaging players - and that split took place nearly 18 years ago.

Oh really?

So when players are given a choice, they'd sooner opt for a chilled game without PvP than put up with the antics of other people.
I fully get that. After working for the public most of life, I'd sooner not spend my downtime with them.

"Antics", there's the thing.

I understand that some people like PvP. The problem is, they don't band together, arrange a league (OK a few do), make a private group, organise a free-for-all in a stated system, organise piracy competitions and fight each other. Instead, I get told things like "I'm going to grief other players because I like PvP and I'm bored with everything else ED offers".

I don't buy that excuse. First, griefing isn't really PvP; the person doing it is never taking any risk. Second, boredom isn't an excuse for being obnoxious. If someone is afflicted by such a poverty of imagination that they can't enjoy ED for what it is and they think the best use of it is to spoil other people's enjoyment too, then I don't want to play alongside them. That's why solo and PG are such useful options. Coping with human nature in this respect is why the modes are such a brilliant design.

So "griefers" need to consider that every time they "grief", or even talk about "griefing" or cause others to talk about it, they are actually justifying and reinforcing the mode system they claim to dislike.

you PVP in any game no matter what there is for it. Its objectives.

In elite what is it for? Griefing. Thats it.

That's the fundamental problem. It seems almost all PvP is someone in a combat ship, interdicting someone else not interested in PvP (at that time), and attacking them for no in game reason/outcome.

When I first heard of Powerplay, I envisaged FD had wisely started developing some combat scenarios CMDRs could sign up to resulting in interesting consensual PvP. ie: Simple head to head battles to affect some outcome. Or more involved missions such as escorting/attacking convoys. Potentially even to full blown station blockades with CMDRs eithrr enforcing it or trying to break/run it. But when Powerplay was released it soon became obvious it was a odd development choice throwing a lot of development effort at a hugely questionable game outcome. And in truth there's been too many such examples (CQC, Generation Ships, Multicrew etc...)

So, three+ years in and PvP is still just as shallow as ever. :(

Will OPEN get more traffic? I suspect griefing under the current mechanics will carry on. Especially while Anarchy systems are needlessly and illogically ignored from any/all C&P mechanics. So I don't think we'll get more CMDRs in OPEN...

That's fine, having this (and the social media outrage over the fix) stuck to my desktop will serve as a constant reminder.
Every time you want to bang on people should play in open I'll remind you I don't play with cheaters.

I still dont understand how any of this was cheating. The high paying missions were spawning regularly like in any given day. You still had to kill all the skimmers to complete them, where is the cheating part?

For once I actually enjoyed a PVE content in this game, and the bigger reward was not thr money but the G5 engineer mats that are ussually hard to find.

And thus, Frontier Developments continues to promote Open as a toxic environment, thanks to Frontier’s overly lenient policy towards cheaters. They could’ve sent a message that cheating like this won’t be tolerated anymore, but instead they just encourage more of it.

What cheating? Don't you think that if Fdev considered it so they would have taken away participant rewards and harshly rebuked them?

There was no cheating, simply the same kind of gameplay that we've all seen for years that was a little ahead of the curve on rewards; big deal. Where are the cries to "send a message" to all the players who literally farmed Sothis, Ceos, Robigo, 17 Draconis etc for months MONTHS before the hole was closed?

Whoa there tiger. Aint no cheetas there.

Because you don't want to.

Quite a few of us have asked every time when is Frontier going to step up and discourage this behaviour.
They've ignored us every time.

As they won't deal with it, they might as well just remove credits altogether.
Because those who don't cheat are now at a disadvantage to those who did. To the tune of a billion credits or more.

Just to be clear: every player who went to Sothis/Ceos and farmed Biowaste missions back to the bubble was a cheater?

As an aside, do you mind if I inquire what your bank balance is? Just out of curiosity.

There is cheating (changing game code, CL, use bugs in code like it was with engineering and that lvl1 exploit) and then there is usage of unintended (by FDev) ways how to make money (or play this game). I would be cautious to give "=" between these two, bcs in this case (my personal estimate) 999/1000 players in ED were "cheating" at least once when playing this game (included myself). Unintended ways of playing are usually solved by FDev by changes (quick), you can put into this category also for example using ships for "suicide ramming" which introduced safe speed limit around stations. I see clear difference between these two, but this is only my own look on things like this.

You know what the funny part is? You didnt really need to board hop in order to make 150+ mil/hour, those missions were spawning by the dozens in the same mode.

I still need an explanation what is the exact activity in this csse that is defined as cheating.

In my experience, even if someone did explain, you wouldn't accept it anyway. Cheating for you, depends on who does it, not what is done.

It's funny how some people define an actual game feature as "cheating" - but quickly forget that word even exists the second they can make 100 Million + / hour and rush to do so before Frontier fixes it.

And some of the names I've seen defending this has really put me off this community.
Plus the disgusting flack another user is getting for bug reporting it.
