The David Lynch film is third in my list of worst movies ever made. Behind only Highlander 2 and Judge Dredd.

Oh do be serious - Plan 9 from Outer Space anybody?

The scifi miniseries was brilliant.
The book Dune is too complex to cover in one movie. Unless they do a LoTR and do 3 4-hour movies it will be a fail.
1) Yup, the Lynch movie is an abomination.
But visually its a stunning film. This scene always gives me goosebumps.
I really love the art direction of the Lynch film. The grand Gothic decadence of it all is wonderful.

Sting in plastic underwear I'll forgive just because it's hilarious, but the rest....
There are plenty of movies that are terrible in their own right. But I also judge a movie on the potential of its source.Oh do be serious - Plan 9 from Outer Space anybody?

My advice to who ever directs it is to watch 'Lawrence of Arabia' again and again and again.
" On Arrakis, we need desert power."
-Duke Leto Atreides, Dune
I'm a huge fan of Frank Herbert's work and I'm really looking forward to this.
To be honest though the best Dune novels IMHO are the preludes by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson.
Especially the 'Legends of Dune' series describing the Butlerian Jihad and the orgins of the Atreides / Harkonnen feud are works of art.

I've read only the Frank Herbert series up to and including Chapterhouse Dune (and read them all a couple of times).
I have never read any of the "ghost-written" post-Frank Herbert Dune books.
Legends of Dune sounds interesting..........

Alas, no Arrakis, Caladan, Ix or Geidi Prime in Elite.
I would definitely pay for blue within blue eyes character customization.
