Proposal Discussion Friend looking to join - what is there to do?

Hello fellow pilots,

I have purchased the beta 1 to support the developing team a week ago. I have a few friend that are also interested in the game. There is the same question that keeps returning:

"What is there to do in the game right now?"

Personally I have had the dreadful experience of DOCKING! and have made a couple of trade missions. So I do not know the full extent of the game's features.

So I am asking for help from you vets out there.

1) What is there to do in the game at the moment?
2) What will be the features to be added in the near future?
3) Do you have a link to the design goals, and implemented features?

Much much thanks ahead of time.

Carpathian.

Welcome Carpathian to Beta!

At the moment you can
#1 Trade. Despite what might people say, this can be exciting and thrilling as bounty hunting and piracy. Still, some people say it is way too easy now, and sure it won't be so in finished game. Idea is you take cargo from one station to another. You follow common sense (industrial systems need food, agricultural systems need tools, industrial systems need ore too, etc.), and additional tools in galaxy map and you will do a profit in no time. Traders are chased by pirates, very important part of the trading gameplay. You can solve it many way, but mostly be careful about doing risky runs with all money invested into your cargo. If someone takes you down, all money is gone;
#2 Bounty Hunting - you can hunt down pilots (both NPC and PC) with 'Wanted' tags, and receive bounties by taking them down. This time you get bounty vouchers (not instant cash) which you have to turn in in stations to get money worth. With money you can upgrade your ship and weapons (same goes with all profesions);
#3 Piracy - not fully implemented yet, however idea is that good pirate rarely uses weapons to take ship down to get cargo. Main weapon are intimidation. At this point you can use comms to request to drop cargo, but there's some pieces missing. Still...some people already engage in proper piracy, so you can try it too. Requires good piloting skills though if "client" starts to fight back;
#4 Just enjoy a scenery and fly around - it is ~ 50 systems, so it is quite a bit. Lot of them have unique star types, planets and stations (which are modular now btw);

What's coming up in next Beta versions?
* Mining
* Exploring
* Passenger transporting
* Scavenging
* And a lot lot more....

if you want to know the full details of how everything is proposed to work and what features are planed for release its well worth spending some time ready the Design Discussion Archive

these are the discussions between those who pledged to join the Design Discussion Forum and the Dev's themselves, in effect crowd-sourcing the game design.

Well in my opinion, to be honnest, the game is boring actually...

There is nothing to do except trading and sometimes fighting.

Trading is boring ! But it is the fastest way to make CR... It is really easy to grab 200k to 300k Cr...

Here is how I see the game actually :
- dock
-------Grab some product or take a delivery mission.
-------Decline any fighting mission since, 1- you will never find the wanted guy, 2 - you'll gain peanuts compared to trading.

- undock
- Jump to the nearest other station (usually you just need 2 or 3 jumps) to sell your products to make big profits.
- make the same thing again and again and again

/ ! \ Warning / ! \ Sometimes you'll get interupted on your travel by a pirate who want your cargo. Just Run, Jump, repair.

So, for anybody asking me, should I buy the Beta ?

My answer is clearly : NO.

Actually there is nothing to do.
-It is totally useless to play with your friends since you don't know where they are.
-Trading is boring and unbalance.
-Fighting is useless but the flight system is really good. So it is really pleasant to fly and fight !
- 50 systems is a joke ... Like 400Millions in my opinion... what is a system ?
It is one or more sun, some planet turning around and a unique docking bay orbiting around a random planet. It is nothing else. there is nothing to do or to explore for now.

Too much things are missing for now and I can't recommend to play to the beta.

But things will be added / fixed later and the beta will be improved with time.

For now I don't play that much to elite because I already did everything I was able to do on only a couple of days.

Actually the game is a sandbox and I find, just like a sandbox, that with a little imagination and some friends to play with, it is immense fun. Every evening!

Went to see Magec 3 B last night. :)

Traded a bit the night before. I'm trying out the different ships. Not just for an hour or two, but for days at a time.

Discovered how to find tradable commodities in the Galactic map at the beginning of the week, so have been experimenting with that to find out how it works. (nicely I must say).

Still finding bugs to report, so that actually shuffling around just doing stuff is still useful!
