Modes Invoke the Berwyn Protocol

I think everybody should play in Open.
I know some people find it scary and some peaceful folk who like to trade, mine and tour the sights stay well away.
We know tens of thousands have joined PvE groups like Mobius.
I don't know how many people play in Solo.
But it's obvious the game has become fragmented.

I think we should all play together in the same space.
We will need to provide protection for those who desire it.
So, one day, when snowed in, I came up with a suggestion.
It's a bit too long for a forum post so I put it here:

https://mailbox944.wixsite.com/theberwyn

Apologies for the weird URL but I got lazy and used a Wix template.

I have no intention of spending long hours arguing the point here or elsewhere.
It's a suggestion. You may like it or loath it.
I'll just leave it here as a discussion point.

Have fun. Fly safe - or at least as safe as Elite allows.

I think Open should be removed.

No one finds a space sim scary.

We know tens of thousands have joined PvE groups like Mobius.

Last head count was around 40,000 CMDRs

Was fragmented from the start, because social interaction is optional.

I think we should all play together in the same space.

When Frontier ban cheaters / exploiters and griefers (real ones, not accused ones).
I may give open another go. Until then, no thanks.

I'll just leave it here as a discussion point.

Because this hasn't been discussed before???

Have fun. Fly safe - or at least as safe as Elite allows.

You to CMDR.

I think the PG and solo should be removed.

Exploration should be removed because this game doesnt have any exploration features.

Trading should be removed because this game has no features to trade nor it makes any money.

NPCs should be removed because they are weak beyond means and only used for credit farming.

We need 1 open server and player kills should award around 10mil per harmless and 100mil per elite kill.

Next upadte hopefully

I think you're looking for CQC, try the main menu under "Arena"

I think everyone should play in whatever mode they desire and people should stop trying to go against the player's preferences.

They are playing the game for their own benefit, not anyone elses.

I see we're up to our "old tricks" again with calls for removing Solo/PG.

Good luck with that. Lemme know how it works out for you- will check back with you in a couple of years. ;)

If anything they just need to incorporate the Power Play system as the way to flag PvP/PvE and voila!- everyone gets what they want instead of catering to one group of players who want to watch the universe burn. They've demonstrated it's possible using in-game mechanics via the Wings system to avoid friendly fire, so the excuse is no longer viable for why they can't implement a flagging system for PvE-only players.

You have got to be kidding me... do you want to know what is fragmenting the community? Posts like this where people have decided their game play/mode is the right one and everyone "should" be FORCED to play in their playground.

Sorry no.. I don't play in sand that has cat turds in it. If you enjoy it fine, but leave me alone to play in the sandbox I enjoy, playing with those I enjoy playing with.

"I think we should all play together in the same space." There is a game that is already like that. Many of us left it because we realized it wasn't fun playing with others who don't care if you don't want to play with them... if you want to give it a try it's called EvE.

No thanks.
I will play in the mode of my choosing. You know, the one I backed the game and paid for.

Now... back to some proper solo/co-op Elite (it's Elite and now with added co-op! shiney :))

Not surprising. 30 Years of Online gaming has shown that people don’t like playing with jerks, and no matter how small of a minority they may be, many players choose to opt out if given a choice, and will quit a game entirely if not given a choice.

(Bold mine) Thanks for telling us this. At least I won’t be wasting my time reading it, if you have no interest in debating it.

That's OK as FD don't either, they consider all games modes equal and have done since the start, that won't change.

News flash, notoriety can only be lowered in OPEN mode. In no way in any fairy tail all modes are equal, never were and never will be. FDEV just made it officially by introducing the notoriety model.

Ignores cheating by exploiting a bugged game mechanic, proclaims a possible bug as proof of something - double standard much?

Edit;

It's most likely a bug, as the feature says you just have to be in game (not what mode) for it to drop

Notoriety and Murder
• Commanders gain a Notoriety rating, a value between zero and ten.
• Notoriety increases by one whenever a Commander commits a murder crime.
• Notoriety decays one unit every 2 hours of time when you’re logged in the game back down to zero.
• For each level of notoriety, murder bounty values are increased by a fraction of the perpetrator's rebuy cost - the higher the notoriety, the bigger the fraction.
• If the victim is a Commander (a player rather than an NPC) then you pay 10% percent per point of notoriety of the difference between your base rebuy cost, factoring in engineering, and the victim’s rebuy cost. If your cost is less than your victim’s, this will be zero. This is to de-incentivise destroying smaller ships than your own. This number, as well as others in the Beyond update, will be revisited and tweaked after launch to make sure the game is as balanced and enjoyable as possible.

• In addition, Commanders that are destroyed have their rebuy cost reduced based on the notoriety level of their murderer - the more notorious the assassin, the bigger the discount on rebuy cost for the victim.
• Notoriety is linked directly to the Commander, regardless of which ship they fly in.
• Any Notoriety means the interstellar factors cannot clear your fines or bounties.
• Around starports, any death that results from collisions will not apply to the notoriety penalties nor will it increase Notoriety. This is to prevent small ships being destroyed by excessive ramming. Ramming and combat logging are two examples of other things that we’re giving specific care and attention to – keep an eye on the forums and on social media for any news relating to these topics.
These changes ensure that Commanders can't completely shed their criminal status by swapping to clean ships. It also addresses the seriousness of the murder crime, especially against other Commanders, as well stopping people from attacking smaller ships unnecessarily.

If that's a bug than notoriety becomes even more useless than if it would be an OPEN only feature. You do understand that sitting on the landing pad while minimizing the window still counts as "being in the game".

Yes.

You do understand that notoriety and the C&P system are PvE features that Frontier naively believes will deter player on player crime, right?

I do understand that's why IMO they didnt need to waiste dev resources on it or the engineers which became even a bigger power creep.
Planets are nice though.

And while you're doing that, you're not bothering anyone - so the feature works.
