The Star Citizen Thread v8

Trying to watch their latest Loremakers thing.

Apparently the most holy site of the Xi'an is two jumps from Sol and they embrace the Dustman Faction from Planescape.

Hey! If CIG do a Planescape crossover, i'm buying in! I wonder if Sandi would play the part of Her Serenity.

Generally any question asked needs to be preceded with a rough estimate of how much money you've given Chris Roberts and must be followed by an affirmation of faith in the eventual perfection and fidelity of the project.

It is amazing how long this thing survived as an online phenomena. But even Star Citizen can't go on forever, it definitely is boring and stale now from whatever angle you look at it, and there doesn't seem to be a magic feature or leap in development in the near future. The hype phase is over.

I remember when it was fast approaching the 2015 and people were joking that the game wouldn't be out until 2018.

Ah, hindsight is a female dog companion-

I think it can go on forever, as long as the community allows itself to remain credulous. When Roberts says "we're not going to call it 3.x, we're going to call it 4.0, and it will have all the features 3.x would have had, and we'll release it next year", everyone will be happy again. Because 4.0.

If a person had enough time it would be funny to collate all the different guesses we've had at release dates from the faithful - Orlando, Briguy etc they've all objected to us saying it was going to take many years more.

We could slowly tick them off as we pass them. I doubt there are many left though. I'm pretty sure The Last Batch were swearing the planets were being chucked out one-a-day and we'd be well into beta by now

I was reading that reddit thread posted above, some guy claims 10 years after Kickstarter is perfectly reasonable. Can you imagine if CR claimed that during the Kickstarter? Give me money and you'll have a game in a... decade. I wonder how much he would've raised then, or if he tried being honest at any other point in the past half decade. Then again, honesty is very rarely connected to ringing up $170 million in sales without an actual product.

What happened there I wonder? Why do we still not have a single planet to land on when they were meant to coming almost 15 months ago?

Maybe when v.9 starts we could ask Yaffle to include a neutral "state of the game as of date x/x/xx" in post 1 of the thread? That way we could at least show some help to people who wander in on the pretext of looking for current development status?

It is simply unrealistic to expect even fans to have endless patience. If nothing substantial happens in the near future the threatening narrative of Star Citizen as a failed project will continue to gain plausibility. The company exploited all kinds of monetization options, I can't think of anything that is left for them to generate more cash. If they would have been successful with finishing the core game they could think about monetizing additional stuff especially by introducing other gameplay options. But with the current development debt this is less and less of an option.

I definitely don't have a clue how long hardcore fans can survive on hope and how big the group of hardcore fans ready to further finance the game is actually. But there will be a point where Star Citizen will even lose the rest of the relevance of its existence through ageing alone. The hype and innovation phase is long over, to me it seems Star Citizen is mostly a depressing cosmos now, no progress since a long time and mostly negative news regarding the court case shedding a bad light on the fundamentals of the project. The videos that the company releases are unwatchable and bore me with the constantly repeated story of "the game will be awesome, we just can't show it to you right now" and a lot of blabla filling the gaps of the story with hot air.

I noticed the number of people visiting the Reddit sub has dropped off a lot. Down to 600 or so at its lowest point.

Absolutely. Used to be consistently over 1000, up to 1800 - has plummeted since. It's rare I see it over 1000 now.

It's a real shame we can't view the graphs anymore

It's because there is nothing to talk about. The longer the company survives, the more people will stop calling for its doom. And if you are for the company, you just play the game and understand that their is no hard timeline. You enjoy it for what it is.

People Loosing interest in "game"....usually after that we can expect a bit more negative press and then finally less monthly income for CIG.....ironically thats the only way to push the Greedy company to start delivering more of the actual game play and less jpegs sales.....

They haven't got a product.

This would only apply under the presumption that the majority of visitors to the subreddit do so in order to call for it's doom, which is self-evidently wrong.

The sub is pretty united that they are not "just playing the game" - they have stopped and are waiting for better framerates and some content.

One things for sure tho. These peoples dedication to hype and resilience to common sense as well as logic is astonishing and has surprised me to no end. Statistically these are the people holding the reigns of the world in coming years.....truly a fearsome scenario :)

It's already there, the scenario. You can see it in politics and in business practice. Star Citizen is but ONE example of scam and lies and incompetence pretending to be awesome.
