Kill/Restart the Oculus VR Runtime Service

but first...

Quick fix, turn off auto time and date set, change the date to yesterday or further back. Then stop and restart the service. This will fix it until they fix the issue of the certificate.

I found this exact fix as above in the comments for this article: https://jgonfer.com/blog/how-to-fix-the-cant-reach-oculus-runtime-service-error-in-oculus-home/

I just tested it on my system, setting the date to 5th March and it works fine :D

Utter madness though.

Thanks man :D

Saw your post before opening the Oculus client. I would have panicked if I hadn't.

P.S. anyone not happy with stopping services, a restart after changing the date does the same thing.

Nope that won't work

Some muppet at Oculus forgot to update their certificates on the run time libraries.

See here https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/7/17092084/oculus-rift-headsets-stopped-working-expired-certificate

Basically all Oculus devices will not work unless you set your computer date before 7th March 2018 until they redo the certificate and send out a patch.

I have tried everything with services etc, even completely re-installed and same error constantly happens and it makes sense if the certificate has expired.

Managed to fly again after a few reinstalls which turned out to be completely unnecessary! Lol! I thought it was an issue at my end!

Lol, you missed the bit in OP where I said "but first..." reset the time/date :D

This thread is about the fix. I thought posting this fix there would just lose it in the many replies already there.

Does changing the system time cause problems elsewhere on the PC even if for a short period of time?
Does it effect cloud saves when playing a game for example with a different time stamp?
Will there be future issues later on?

I have no idea!

TBH as long as I can play Elite... I don't care :p

As far as time stamps go - ED still reports the correct GCT.

But the "fix" is already in the OP of the other thread. Anyway it's not a fix it's a workaround.
