...is the most time consuming challenge ever created!

Been trying to see a doctor for a few weeks about some mild chest pains and back numbness(all on the left side, otherwise I'd not bother. Lol).

Can't get an appointment.
Tried ringing at opening times...
Lines busy.

By the I get through...
No appointments.

Tried going in as they opened.
No appointments.

Ever. Not even for another day, or week, or next year.

The NHS takes more out of my wages than most of my other bills, yet I get precisely nothing back. Lol
I do wish it was optional so I could afford to go private. WHICH COSTS LESS.

Grrr.

Best part is, if I do ever get to see one of these mythical doctors, they'll probably just tell me I'm young, and I'll get over it and send me off to die... :p

Oh, and I still have to pay for my medication...

Luckily, whatever it is, isn't getting worse, but it's not gone away either. Meh...

Not sure if this counts as political, but if it does, I'm just venting. If it doesn't, don't make it political. :p

Not going to comment too much as this CAN be very political, but I know what you're talking about, and it's not easy.

I'm lucky, private insurance and some access to NHS services, on top of that I got a company health care plan, not everyone is so fortunate.

However it's a pain in the butt, need to go to medical checkup every 6 month.

In France we still have the chance to be treated without much difficulty

But for an appointment with the ophthalmologist it's six months
for the dentist 15 days to 1 month
for the dermatologist this is 3 months,

on average and in my area of course

Tell them you have chest pains and nothing more over the phone, they "should" treat you as a priority.

Can you do a "sit and wait" number? My old docs used to keep a few slots open per day for urgent stuff.

I have to visit my physician this week. Have a choice of dozens of slots between 08:00 and 20:00. My insurance costs me 7 bucks a month, but I do have to pay an addition $3 per visit. Medication is free.

Sometimes I cant help but wonder what the heck is going on in different countries. Its not as if you pay less tax in the UK...

American healthcare, I assume?

Over in sunny England we have the NHS.
They kindly take about 5~% of your wages (about £50~ a month for me), and in return, you can't see your doctor, and have to pay for most medication.
If you do get seen, there's a high chance you'll be fobbed off.
Ending up in hospital is a bit of a lottery on whether you die before you get seen, or get an infection after surgery, or survive, but get sent home before you're ready and die of something else.

I went in for appendicitis once, it took 5 days to get the surgery.

But everyone loves our "free" NHS, and won't let it die. Lol
I much prefer the American healthcare system (from what I've read, anyway).

I'd rather have private healthcare, but I can't afford to pay it on top of the NHS.

Haha, no, Belgium. Almost the same in the Netherlands, and it is miles above the US system. Had to undergo minor surgery last year. Operation costs, doctors fee, narcotics, post-operation medicine, a one-person bedroom with my own bathroom, food and drinks etc: combined cost of $45. Meanwhile I am entitled to receice full salary for the first two weeks, plus 60% or so for the next six months.

Healthcare is a cornerstone of a decent civilisation, and I judge a government heavily on its ability to provide a reasonable plan. Its outrageous that so many countries fail to do so, and those responsible should be flogged. All the best man!

I wish, here in the US, I'm paying into my company health coverage and that's several hundred a month. If I actually want to see a doctor for a runny nose, I have to pay $35 on top of that for my co-pay. I know some friends who pay $50 for their copay. I just use Google now for all my med cares. Some guy even live video taped him removing his own gallbladder, so anything is possible :)

At that pay rate you'd be lucky to have any coverage at all in the US.

Right you are. I could go on for days about all the things wrong with the Dutch health system, but at the same time it's still so much better than those of other civilized countries.

I know a Dutch doctor who works here in UK. A lot of UK bashing yet everyone wants to come here.
