It;s starting to seem somewhat obvious that the incoming twist is that the Thargoids are a downtrodden bullied species that eventually managed to outstrip their cruel masters and the Guardians are the real evil in the galaxy. If that turns out not to be the case, I'll eat my hat.

I don't know, it looks like it's going to be the exact opposite with the Thargoids being the bullies.

Hardly. The Thargoids couldn't be any LESS interested in killing us. When we die it's a side effect of them trying to achieve something else (either self defense, researching our species, collecting their technology back from us, or taking out Aegis labs again for reasons of 'getting their stuff back'). I'm not a xeno ally, but I haven't seen even the SLIGHTEST inkling of malevolence from the Thargoids, so far. Only indifference to whether we are killed or not while they conduct their own business.
