Open play trolls

Yeah because I was totally flying an unshielded type 7 then wondering why I died....yeah that's totally it

Ah well that would be why - you ought to pop some shields over that paper hull. You might also consider something faster, like a Clipper or a Courier.

They weren't "trolling" you. They were opposing the CG goal, clearly.

Edit: big agree with Vindelanos: don't retreat to private. Fight, learn, adapt!

I agree it isnt trolling - I define that as attacking a new player for no reason at al like a newbie in a sid with no cargo and no powerplay. If anyone thinks using a highly engineered warship to kill a sid like that is fun tut tut.see a shrink. But players like tnat are a minority really.

What sucks is game is mega unbalanced. I play in Open and Mobius about 50 50 and CGs about same. I can easily get away fro attacks and it just adds a time sink although I note on the xbox numbers of players in open are now getti g lower and lower. Not a good sign. Use Mobius whem I have limited time as I am a working adult and same old same old time sinks.

ED is a fighting optional game. Reason? Assymetric risk. Trader bound to lose and loses cargo with no insurance. Heavily armed killing ship vs trader. How can that work? So fdev made running easy and just a time sink. Players wanting a pvp fight get bored. Answer? Balance trader vs pirate - new cp system could help if tweaked. When you die as a pirate all eng modules should be lost - increase the risk. Being a pirate should be in a cheap ship with no engineering with fake ID. Then make fsd reboot times a lot longer. Make CGs open only but triple rewards. Also for pvp fighter vs fighter ranking system plus zero rebuys in co petitions run by factions and in CZs. Make fighting fun and stop the credit per hr whine.

I play open, I don't gank or murder. I am not a moron or a ganker. neither are the 99% of other players I meet in open. The 1% are easily avoided, you can even do it low waking to the station by having reasonable shields and boosters, flying skills and a plan. It ain't that hard.

Thanks for making my point.
You have to plan for stupid encounter.....
To that the AI in solo is stupid enough.

Love it, maybe not the no engineering part, but then again maybe. You could use all ya second hand modules, the g3s, and mid level legacy rolls, then when ya lose em it's not so bad.
Would help with the power play farming that goes on (I mean get what ya want people, but it would also be cool if PP modules where for players actually with a power).

Def agree on triple paying Open only CGs, dunno how it would be enforced with all the mode switching, but it would be very cool.

I was dueling with just one such baddy when my wife gave me the dark look and marched out of the office muttering something about how boring I was and how I was "not getting any later tonight." I, of course, was logged out 15 seconds later:)

Oh man...a boring comment too? Yeesh...Tread lightly brothah. Been there. You'd better surprise her and take her out tomorrow night. Start regularly scheduling date nights with her too. Stay away from the pc until Sunday, if you can help it. A single rose helps if she likes flowers. Prepare to go out again in no less than 2 weeks. Repeat as often as necessary. It doesn't matter what you think, you're already wrong so accept it.

Good luck CMDR and date safe.

Sorry Bro, that's just troll talk. If I am in open, I expect to get interdicted at some point by a player, I'm power play active, Fed aligned and often carry juicy cargo. Of course I'll attract interest from players, Having a plan (or 3) is part of playing the game. Your statement says nothing other than an attempt to continue a lost argument. Grow up Bud, life really is too short.

I'm fairly new so thanks for all the nice comments, so doing anything in open you should just expect to be killed for no reason at any time?

Killed yes, but not for no reason - didn't you see someone got to boast about their piloting skills?

You are the content. If you don't like it there are private groups that run things differently - it's survivable but they do take a lot of the fun out of it

Where are these mythical wings of FdL's with rainbow ammo? Seriously, I fly in and out of many so called hot spots for the past year in open, never, ever seen anything like that. Saw 2 Asps working together once, that's it.

The instance Hunger Games must be forever in your favor

And Chieftans, lots of Chieftans attacking everything that moves.

Haha, maybe I shoudl get in my Chieftain and attack other Chieftains that are attacking other Chieftains.

I would but my Chieftain is only 70% engineered after 5 evenings because I keep having to stop to trade or search for materials. Seriously, who came up with this new system?!

I've been in open for the last few hours doing pax missions in some Imperial backwater. Not seen another single soul.

A gank or troll would be much welcome right now, just to break up the tedium somewhat.

I venture in to Open alot (when my internet allows. Lol).

Been attacked about 4 or 5 times. Died once.
And my death was down to my gamepad disconnecting, during a torpedo strike. :D

Hilarious way to go.
My poor poor Python...

Either way, learn to run, or learn to fight.
If you're not willing to do either, join Mobius or solo. Complaining about it does you no good.

Less than an hour in open play and killed twice by trolls for no reason, no bounty.

While doing the community goal at that. Seriously what do you gain by ruining open. Play experience for new players

OP it's worth bearing in mind that the gankers telling you how to play never ever emerge into open except in heavily engineered end game ships with lots and lots of rebuy, they are telling you to do something they have never and will never dare to do.

Just do your own thing, group/solo mode is sensible for CG's and any of the engineers but usually open is fine.

I play 100% in open.

Combat Rank: Harmless
Trade Rank: Entrepreneur
Exploration Rank: Elite

Number of insurance rebuys: Zero

Number of times killed by other players: Zero

It is perfectly possible to play as a pacifist in Open without getting yourself killed, either by players or NPCs.

Avoiding death by NPC is simple: Don't kill anything. If you keep your combat rank down to Harmless the game won't send any serious contenders out to destroy you and the NPCs that do come interdicting you will be so easy to evade that it is ridiculous. Frontier nerfed NPC interdictions a while back so now it interdiction mini-game is a mere formality.

Avoiding death by players is even easier. See that nice community goal over there? Avoid it. Ram Tah has missions to decipher Guardian sites? No thank you. The key to survival is to avoid other players. If you enter a system and see another player on your radar ... immediately high wake out of there. Avoid high-traffic locations in the game and you can avoid getting blown up.

Answering the question as to "why" some players prey on other players is simple. They aren't psychopaths and they aren't just out there to ruin your day. Mostly they're just bored. NPC enemies are predicatable so taking on other players gives them the potential to face off against someone who won't behave in a predictable manner. People don't need a reason to justify why they attack other players. This is a game and there aren't any rules that set you aside as being off limits.

In a nutshell. Yes, yes and yes.

If you're not a PvP player, then playing in open is like walking into a gay bar wearing nothing but an Apron...
