Questions about volcanic sites

First of all - yes I know that you can go to one of those by following tourist missions - not interested in this at the moment.
My first question is, do volcanic sites are more common now (I remember hearing that ED can spawn up to 3/4 sites per planet)?
Second question - are there any rules on where the sites are spawned? Is it all another RNG nightmare or can you at least make out a general area that should have them?
I traversed countless of small moons in looking for volcanic sites and nothing/nada/nix.
Please share your knowledge if possible.

I had some luck searching around deep canyons, just look for tiny pois. But they are hard to find. Also use something like Captain's Log and search major vulcanism planets. Good luck, and fly safe cmdr.

Thanks for the advice Saajlas - problem is I found many tiny POI`s, every time I scouted around in SLF and SRV - never ever saw a volcanic site, its like they not spawning or are under ground bugged or something.

One thing is certain, you can't tell from the planet shades and variations. Tried that in Beta for a known site (Epsilon Fornacis, I think it's called). Couldn't see them until less than 5 km and I knew they were there.

I think they've been found by either blind luck, sheer perseverance flying upside down low over the surface, watching for changes in data speed etc.

I gave up on these shortly after they were introduced.

I haven't been back to any of the bookmarked planets I checked out in 2.4. But seeing fumeroles floating in mid-air, or popping into existence when I got a couple of meters away from them (with an overclocked 1080ti) was not my idea of realistic. Leave alone fun gameplay!

I saw no mention of any LOVE for these features in the 3.0 or 3.02 patch notes, so again, I have not bothered to revisit them.

I won't get on my soap box over this topic like I did back when they were first introduced, but suffice it to say... One of Frontier's more EPIC FAILS in recent memory, and a real loss for the community. :( [down][down]

I have everything on max settings running 30-60 fps no major issues apart from... empty tiny POIs. As we speak I scouted another small blue dot - nada. No iron magma here. And dont get me wrong, they do show up on tourist sites - I tried them few times months ago. But as far as looking for random ones, they just dont exist in my game lol.
After trip to SiG A I`m starting to believe FD wasted that efforts on creating huge galaxy - they should just hand crafted few systems for PvP crowd - who cares about few lunatics explorers....
(I`m in seriously bad mood atm)

This is the guide I use (it may not be new info to you): https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...depth_guide_to_volcano_mechanics_discovering/

I've tried after this patch to see if I can discern specific sites from orbital cruise, but I can't see anything even at places I know there is a site, so gliding around looking manually still seems to be about the only thing to do. The linked guide basically has you choose bodies with a fast orbital period with the idea of maximizing amount of volcanic activity, and choosing bodies with the smallest surface area you can to improve your odds.
