Open play trolls

It's about time I got myself over there too and actually had a serious go at it.

When I'm set up on my PC properly, I'll be there. PvP at 15fps on a tiny laptop screen isn't the best, I'd imagine.

Some of the best aspects of the PvP Hub: it's the safest player hot spot in the galaxy, in the sense that ganking by it's members is strictly forbidden, so you can go there and be reasonably assured of getting in and out without too much trouble. Note, there are players drawn there for the combat opportunities who are not members of the Hub, so you still have to be self aware. There is almost always some action, members scooting around willing to duel or train, and it's membership is a collection of the best PvPers in the game, so when I say train, I really mean it; these players are good. It's a lot of fun in a fairly well controlled environment. Definitely my favorite spot to hang out now that I'm back in the game.

Awesome, that sounds like fun to me.

Prolly not lol. I like doing my fighting with my Oculus personally. Have a much bigger view and can target things by looking at them. Also, you’ve always got free look, so I can watch their every move while maneuvering my ship even when they’re not directly in front of me. Gives you an edge.

I don't have VR, but I do have trackIR, which is kinda the next best thing.

Interesting. When I'm in VR, I tend to avoid PvP and even combat in general. It's much more comfortable for me on a normal monitor.

Don't give up OP, i've been playing for only 3 months and i'm complete noob. Done 2 CG's and been killed few times, but this problem of open play is so much exaggerated. So much that when you are in deep space and you finaly see another cmdr they won't even say hello. Ridiculous.

Repped

saajlas, you should come pirating with me some time.

Thanks cmdr, but for now stuck on a way to Colonia and it seems i can't fly straight. To much stuff to see, stupid galaxy.

The issues with open are not exactly exaggerated - there are people that do go out their way to gank others and this is typically around CGs.There have even been cases of people flying out to certain long distance spots (e.g. Hutton Orbital and Sag-A) and ganking players for no good reason. The lack of trust in Open is perfectly understandable.

If you want to ensure you have a decent social experience then people are effectively forced out of Open because of a "handful" of PvPers that think certain behaviours are acceptable. Personally, I would not touch open with a barge pole because of such players - they may be a minority but I have zero interest in their brand of PvP and zero interest in the kind of environment that festers around such behaviours.

Luckily, no-one is forced to play in Open and the Mobius Private Group is a pretty reasonable environment for those looking for a more social focused MMO experience. If you are interested in PvP though, you will have to suck it up and stick with Open (or try and form a Private Group with a tougher stance on PvP behaviours without going too PvE focused).

All I ever ask is that people just invite me to duel. I'll go and get a more appropriate ship and have a go. Getting jumped and insta-popped by a silent wing is, well, kinda boring. Cant really claim "muh player interaction" if theres no interaction.

Less than an hour in open play and killed twice by trolls for no reason, no bounty.

While doing the community goal at that. Seriously what do you gain by ruining open. Play experience for new players

Don't be someone else's content just join us in Mobius, ignore the people telling you not to; they just don't want you to have cookies.

Unlikely to happen in ED based on the apparent attitudes of at least some PvPers, similar suggestions have occurred before and the nominal response has been to refer to those suggesting such things as snowflakes and accompanied by cat calls to "git gud".

If you want that kind of gameplay, you are better off in Mobius/Solo/other-private-group and using CQC (or a suitable Private Group) for your PvPing.

Sure cmdr, but i like the danger that comes from playing in open, and there are ways to escape them. So maybe OP will also enjoy it and get better at it, if not devs gave us other options. And if i get killed in deep space full of exploration data i will congratulate the cmdr that does it. As for CG's my own experience was different, i did one in ngalia made money for asp x(still love my cobra) and then did one in pleidas and been killed few times, so what, got money for rebuy and that's it, but then again im only playing for few months so what do i know.

OP. Stick with open. I've found it much better than any of the private groups I've joined in my 3+ years of play.

Throw me a friend invite if you want some help

I'm fairly new so thanks for all the nice comments, so doing anything in open you should just expect to be killed for no reason at any time?
Quite frankly, that is the way of things, whether it be from ai or player. But then there are numerous ways to die in game, most of them, sadly, involving fiery death beams of one sort or another. No reason not to fly open, though.

Yeah... Interesting you should have that experience considering all the Open apologist's claims that this kind of thing "rarely" happens in Open.

Do yourself a favor. Sign up for the Mobius PG as well as exploring the game in Solo mode. Both provide a far superior ED experience than slumming it with the typical internet randoms and other low lifes.

The fact that the game itself runs like a top in Solo mode compared to the glitchy, rubber bandy kind of performance most generally see in Open mode is another major bonus. :)

I've been playing since 2014, I play about 75% open 25% solo, my ships are all PvE, I've never voluntarily entered PvP. I've been killed maybe 10 or 12 times, and I've never won a fight against a human player.

And you know what?

When I die, I take it on the chin. It's a part of the game, it's a part of the dystopian universe of Elite: Dangerous. The "trolls" would exist in the 34th Century too.

It's a vast galaxy and criminals have a degree of freedom and ability of evade justice that is unparalleled anywhere in our 21st Century world. It's a perfect situation for the worst elements of humanity to flourish. Not every dangerous person is going to be some honourable pirate: do you think in an environment like this, almost every sadistic scumbag and wealthy trust-fund sociopath in the galaxy wouldn't be out there getting their rocks off by killing faceless innocents in the anonymous vacuum of space? We have random attacks and school shootings and serial killers today, when it's virtually impossible to escape the law, imagine these *******s could just frameshift to another jurisdiction and pay off their bounties at an Interstellar Factors, imagine how much more common it would be. These guys would be everywhere.

I lost my Python earlier today when the batteries in my Elite Controller went dead right when I was jumped by a pirate while collecting some space salvage. Lost 20 Planetary Scan missions that all fail on ship destruction and the major drops in faction relationships that came with it.

It happens.

In my case... Why is there no god damned battery level indicator in-game for XBOX Controllers on PC/Windows?
