[SAS] The "Sidey Appreciation Society"

https://inara.cz/wing/896/

We're not very active either and many have left but you're welcome to stick your name on the list... Fraud Digger got to Beagle Point in his Sidewinder.

Thanks will do. That was one of you chaps was it? I heard about that. Inspirational. Good show.

SAS Exploration Wing Galactic Circumnavigation Expedition

Hell's teeth! That's a vast undertaking for anyone let alone Sidey pilots. I don't think I could set aside two years for this, in fact I know I can't.

It's way too ambitious a plan for me so I'll politely decline the offer. Good luck to you though, hope you pull it off.

What's the matter old boy, not got the belly for it?

Two year trip a little to ambitious for me given all the events at the Bubble at the moment

What's in the Bubble that's so great?

As much as the Expedition is ambitious, it's as much a boycott of the Thargoid content added to the game instead of actually finishing the landable planets and space legs and exploration. And everything.

I'll do it anyway without any support then. I'm currently waiting for Aisling Duval to allow me to buy Prismatic Shields for my combat Sidewinder Black Joke: https://eddp.co/u/klhn4ylC, she has nearly the same armour as a basic Imperial Cutter. Another three weeks then I can get my shields and leave Duval's faction. Then I can head out in my explorer Sidewinder Enterprise: https://eddp.co/u/q7loHaCy, maximum range with SRV 28.13L-y. In the meantime I will work out a new itinerary for the entire Expedition. Tentative launch date 5 November.

Just one question left to settle. Without any support ships with DSS, I have a choice of taking an AFMU to enable me to repair my FSD after using neutron-jumping, be able to effect any other repairs, and will gain nearly a light-year jump range besides, but then have no DSS to discover Jumponium and will have to use known Jumponium Depots to gather materials; or I can take a DSS and possibly discover new Jumponium Depots, and can only use neutron-jumping a few times in the last resort or else my FSD will die. I'm inclined to take the DSS, even with the loss in range. Thoughts?

I just made it back from a long exploration trip in my Sidey 'Mostly Harmless' and made Elite!

Welcome to the club of Elite explorers. Personally I did all of my exploring up to Elite in my Asp Abeona. +1 for doing it in a Sidey.

Does SAS have a home system?

I don't think so. But I'm new here. Historically in 1984 Elite the Sidewinder Mk. I was produced at the Onrira Orbital Shipyards, so Onrira should be the HQ or home system of the SAS. However Onrira isn't present as a named system in ED. But several neighbouring systems from original Elite are present in ED, and I reckon that the system CD -35 9019 system, with heavy industry and ELW, is the only real candidate for the original Onrira in the neighbourhood. Perhaps we could get the devs to change the name of the system.

This sounds amazing, I have signed up on Dead Ends circumnavigation trip and I am a little apprehensive about it going in something alot bigger, trying it in a Sidey though - best of luck it is very ambitious and would be great to see it happen.

Yeah. Dead End Circumnavigation. Them. Only looked them up after 2.4 as I'm not going to look for an expedition whilst I'm waiting to possibly buy new modules after an update, and oh they closed the roster immediately the 2.4 update was released. Good one. I hope they disappear without a trace.

Glad you dismissed me and my interests, as I certainly have no interest in any boycott to support you personal grips and expectations that everything isn't devoted to what you want, thank you very much.

‘Glad glad dismised me intersts and my, no certanly intrest no boycot suport expectateon grips personal everything what wnt devoted to you thankyou so much thankyouthankyouthankyou.’

Get a gripe. The game is not what everyone expected even if it’s everything you personally hoped it would be. I spent all Sunday afternoon trying to make the game more interesting for people by drawing up an expedition, and I don’t expect any lip from fanbois like you because it wasn’t all about what you want.

Allright girls and boys, simmer down a bit... The Sidey Appreciation Society is neither the place for barbed comments nor political (game/dev politics included) banter.

I'm presently mining in my SW to unlock Selene. I managed 70T last night. I found that it's quicker to eject the cargo rather than keep running back to the station to sell it. Anything that goes through the refinery counts for Selene. Obviously, I'm keeping Painite. I'm going to cheat by moving a ship from my other account to store painite in if I get more than 2T, then transfer t back to the SW to donate t Selene.

The hardest thing is that I'm mining without shields and many of the fragments stay close to the irregularly shaped rocks. I lost nearly half my hull from one gentle knock from the rock as a lump rotated around and got me from behind. That makes me waste a lot of time going back to the station for repairs, so I'm thinking about a 1A shield and a booster.

Has anybody else tried mining in a Sidewinder? Any tips?

I did a bit better last night. I mined 155T and got 8T of Painite. I'm halfway to Selene now. Hull damage is still a problem, but I managed to stay mining as long as I wanted.

I love my Sidey "Ensign Red Shirt"
Whenever I have any bounties on my head from PP undermining etc (never killing CMDR's!), I jump in him, offer myself up to any local CMDR's with a KWS, if no takers I pop in to SC and let an NPC bounty hunter get me and turn them in to dormant bounties.

God bless Ensign Red Shirt!! :D

I have Sidney, my maxed, engineered Sidewinder. Great ship. I also have my Idiot Winder, for drab message running, etc. Works great. Only problem is the cargo rewards fill the hold up too fast. :(

There isn't much a Sidewinder can't do. Ingenuity, patience, and time are required to do some things, but it is a very forgiving and rewarding ship.

Bring on Selectable rewards of 3.0

Had a drama filled evening in my Sidey

There I am running passenger transport missions for Master of Travel Luisa Hewitt, hoping to sure up the influence for the faction if support, the Angeli Imperial Enterprises, in the ongoing election in Svaroo

When a chain mission notification pops into my inbox

Well, some Pirate Lord wants to come kill our Faction Patrician, well that sounds like something I cannot turn down.

Screenshot_1948.png

What, Dee is from the Angeli Imperial Enterprises? But that is us, is this a power play, is someone trying to Kill off Patrician Mitchell and take over.

Screenshot_1950.png

Seems it is an inside job, no doubt Dee Wilson is some Privateer on the AIE payroll for less than legal operations

Screenshot_1949.png

Well best to outfit for the occasion

Screenshot_1954.png

Naturally Dee would be in a Federal Corvette! who funds these people? oh that is right, we do.....
Screenshot_1953.png

Well in the end, the threat on the life of Patrician Mitchell is over, but seems the power struggle inside the AIE is having some conflicting effects on our financial and economic stability.

Back in the day, I supported the notion for the Sidy to be the starter ship in the, then yet to come, new Elite game, just sayin. ;)

Been away from ED for a while but once 3.0 hits the Sidey will be the first ship in my fleet that I'll engineer. Just love that little gem :)

With 3.0
The Sidewinder need not sit on the side lines when it comes to taking the fight to the Thargoids

The Sidey can stand up to those Scouts and stop their Marauding across Human Space

Thanks for posting this video, it reminds me again why I love that little ship :D.

(Although at the moment you are definitely the better fighter pilot compared to me ...)

Still in awe of your trip to Beagle Point

I have signed up to DW to see if I can get my Sidey there but with the luxury of Engineering, the extra internal and the cheaper FSD Injections
