Assassinate Terrorist Leader Wing Missions...

Expect a deadly Conda with 5 - 6 wingmen. It becomes a race to take out the target before you get savaged by the pack. Its fun :)

Oh yeah I took one yesterday, I stopped in and the leader was in an engineered Federal Corvette and was in a wing of six lol. The boat I was in wasn’t prepared for such a battle so I had to hop out.

... are a whole lot of fun played out on your own. Finally, a challenge for combat orientated pilots that doesn't require a self-nerf. Great rewards to.

Right on!

My new favorite thing in the game. I love this moment when you have to immediately decide will you just kill the boss and run (crippled) from the gang, or work the other way around and save the boss for the end. And the boss always carries some grade 5.

I've been interested to try them, but have no idea what kind of enemies I'd face.

Some have seen other configurations, but I've had the same several times now, Anaconda, FDL, Asp, Vulture, Cobra3, Viper3.

I hope you are good. ;) Soloing them in a medium ship is hardcore. Take a big ship for a more relaxed time. :)

I've done it in the FGS without fighter, was close though, although I was flying lazily. For me, the best target order is FDL, Asp, Vulture, Cobra, Viper, Anaconda.

I agree. they are great fun. Fdev are addressing PvE difficulty in exactly the right way. Instead of nerfing, they are giving NPC's counter builds instead.

All the assassination missions I see require me to scan a data point at a +++ base.
Are these any easier than they used to be, or is it a still virtually a full base assault just to get the location ?

I see a problem here, it is still the same stupid AI just using better weapons and comming in greater number. Not really a challenge.

It is like ATR, same stupid AI just being cheated (teleporting next to you if range is above 8km within unobtainable mods on weapons) does not make it a challenge.

You are technically right but difficulty is subjective. Anyone who has learned to fight Elite npc's well wont find huge challenge in this and certainly not a competent PvP player but for the average pilot that hops into a Rez or CZ only every now and then, these missions do pose a real threat/fun challenge.

They are a good challenge if you are on your own. Already a second CMDR takes a lot of the challenge away. Two FAS with mediocre Engineering rip and tear everything in those instances. Add a friend in a Conda and it is a cakewalk.

Just mind your combat rank and the rank of the mission. Just pulled down a 6 man wing with the named target in an Elite Cutter, running 4 shield cell banks... Running a PvE vette, I didn't think I would need feedback cascade. Fighter killed all 5 wingmates before I finally ran the jackhole out of banks. Oh, and it was those crazy awesome AI banks that seem to prevent shield breaking while they recharge... sigh.

I work myself from small to big. So last time for me it was Eagle, Cobra, AspX, Vulture, FDL, Anaconda. But in my Chieftain this requires a good deal of kiting. Also note that sometimes ships which you hit badly jump out when you kite them around. (In the example i gave, i had to boost away with the Vulture below 30% hull. When i turned around, i faced the FDL and Anaconda and a high wake. )
.
So yes, the composition of the wing is random, and at least i am not good enough to go right for the Anaconda. Trying that cost my two Chieftains, i fare much better kiting them around and killing the small ships first.

I try to remove the biggest guns on the smallest ships first. So FDL, Vulture, Asp, then the Cutter etc..
I just end up ignoring the other really small ships Viper etc... I worry about potential firepower against me.

I find that even unchecked Vipers and Eagles add up for significant shield damage. I use bi-weaves, which are not the best choice when fighting multiple enemies. My Chieftain was not built with a 1vs6 scenario in mind, but i found that i now like the challenge. So for me the first priority are those guns which i can eliminate quickly, as any ship, no matter how small, can prevent my shield from recharging.
.
So i guess the difference in priorisation is based on your ship having a better shield configuration for this kind of fight.

Well, the way I see it is hardpoints pointed at you. FDL+Asp = half the hardpoints in the instance (except the Annie), then the Vulture, and there are no hardpoints left that can give you a real issue. Also, depending on what you're flying, the smaller ships may take longer to get down, simply due to maneuverability and that's a long time to have the 11 hardpoints of the Asp and FDL pointed at you (1 huge, 6 medium and 4 small). Then downing the vulture adds two larges to that list and all you've got left are 4 mediums and 4 smalls before you can get on with the Annie. Lastly, the FDL and Asp are about as quick to take down as the Cobra and Viper, depending on your loadout. But yeh, whatever works for you, I kinda over engineered it. :)

This is my reasoning too, shoulda just quoted your post instead of writing the same thing, lol.

It's really good fun. Too easy in a wing though, we need difficult 6 and 7 version of this
mission, it would neat.

It feel good to have to use tactics beyond point and shoot on NPCs :)
