Because when *he* publicly gives up on the game, it's the band on the Titanic .

That seems just a bit hyperbolic. Yes, Ant is a huge contributor to ED outside of the game, and his YT vids will be greatly missed during his sabbatical, but I wouldn't define him as the glue holding the community together, nor the toll of the bell signalling ED's death. Empirically, I've seen many, many veteran CMDRs take a break from this game, and good for them - sometimes this game is capable of consuming more than just your time.

That is worth bringing out to the front page.

I disagree! oh, damn just given it another bump! :D

seriously though,. it's one player! who just happens to have made a tool that you, and some others just happen to find useful (not belittling their efforts there btw, i just choose not to use CL myself, but i can see it's appeal). also, you unnecessarily tagged on another players name for added drama, something that i really don't think you had need or should have done!

Playing Elite should be as fun as going to the local pub. Meeting friends, having a brawl, exploring some pints and delve into some mysteries about women. The amount of time of this activity should be somewhat equal too.

What if you had to start grinding mats before going to the pub to start with? No way!

Genar-Hofoen is suffering from burnout after playing for 1-3000 odd hours. It happens.

Nothing more, nothing less. And what he calleds "busy-work", most others call gameplay.

Have to say though discussion around what Genar and others feel really annoying was enlightening to me. I am starting to leaning towards having hard and challenging missions for unlocking these things - than repeating same stuff over again.

It is much more work though and mission system might not be ready yet for this, although there are signs.

I was not familiar with this individual either. But it sounds to me like the guy has been heavily invested into the game for a long time. It takes that kind of investment to write a useful third-party app (never used it personally). And just as anyone who has been investing that much time into something, there is a high risk of Burn Out.

I seriously doubt that this is going to cause any shifts in Frontier's plans. After all, regardless of what he does within the community, it is still down to his personal opinion.

As for Obsidian Ant? I hardly see how this would cause him to rethink his position. His focus has always been on the "News and Happenings, in and Around Elite Dangerous".

The game is always going to have News, and there will always be something happening. Sounds like job security to me. :D

You are using his name in a false maner to promote your topic. He has never claimed loosing faith in the game recently.

In addition you duplicate a topic that was already on the same subject.

//close thread

And you are perfectly fine to read that thread.

I felt this was important. If the mods think I'm wrong, they will close it, and that is OK.

How do you earn the $$ you spend at the pub?
Two boring things does not make 1 fun.

Solution:

Allow players to play a Work Role: i.e. Police. Being ORDERED to do missions while playing as part of a Police/Security/SpecialOp NPC wing.
You can choose whatever ship or load out you want (limited by current ranks), but you do not own the ship and neither can you go as you please. You earn a small pay and some bonuses from completing the missions. Your Wing leader talks to you in real time and can be NPC or other cmdr. If cmdr, you just help on his quests/missions/trading ops/bounty hunting etc. And share his profit to a lesser degree.

That way you can be thrown into the game immediately, without any tedium. Unless you want to go by yourself, the long path.
You may switch at any time between these type of roles/paths as CR and data on the same account.

This thread has nothing to do with OA i'm afraid - title is very misleading
