Ship Dismissed

Is there a way of preventing your ship from auto-dismissing when you're a certain distance away in your SRV? It's rather annoying and I'd like it to stay put!

Nope, can't. Exceed the distance and it'll be gone.

The only way is to keep the Ship locked and remain inside that distance...

I was wondering this last night, and I assume someone has tried this (I'm 38k ly from Sol and to chicken to try it), but what happens if you disable the thrusters and FSD, or set them to repair with the AFMU?

Take the key with you?

I'd just be happy with either an option to Cancel a dismissal, or the [censored] menus to not rearrange themselves. I've lost track of how many times I've dismissed my ship trying to shuffle cargo because my throttle is at +.001 and my SRV drifts just a little bit...

Your ship stops. It'll go again when you switch 'em back on... :D

There was a simple trick but it was patched out quite a while ago. Once landed you could disable thrusters, the ships AI could never turn them back on. The devs changed it so thrusters now auto disable when landed on a planet, you can't enable or disable the thrusters in the modules tab.

Have never understood the logic behind these strange restrictions, it would be nice to leave the mothership as a base camp when I'm out exploring canyons or mountains on some of the more interesting planets. I Also find the SLF 30km tether very restricting.

I don't see the problem, just recall it when you are ready to leave. I usually dismiss mine as soon as the wheels hit the dirt, damn problem getting out from under the Cobra.

I should have clarified: what happens if you disable them before hopping in the SRV?

Your thrusters automatically deactivate when you've landed and you can switch off everything else in your ship, apart from the power plant (which can't be deactivated) and the life support (for reasons which - I hope - would be somewhat obvious...) :D
For example, when I've landed, I switch off the FSD, sensors, fuel scoops and cargo bay.
The only thing I leave on are shields (if I'm carrying them), the vehicle hangar and life support.
It's all perfectly safe to switch everything off.

I'm out exploring and have very little health left on my ship. I just don't want the autopilot to faceplant my ship when it's recalled... Having the ship stay where it is would seem the easiest way of preventing that.

Other than that, not a problem per se, just a preference.
