Looking for both a VR headset and Hotas with a £300 budget

Just got a nice bit of cash from selling some unwanted stuff and thought that i should treat myself. Since ive fallen in live with ED again I decided on getting hotas and vr set. Which do you reccommend, why? And will it fit the budget? Thanks in advance,

For that budget, buy a hotas, and move the screen REAAAAALY close to your face until you save the £400 for an oculus (hey, it's what I did....)

I would say vive pro but I'm assuming you value the affordable over the high res :)

VR and a HOTAS for £300? good luck, best get trawling second hand sales sites.

What about the dk2? It seems worth the price and i dont want to spend too much incase I hate it. I can always just sell it and save for a better one if I feel as if I do like it. I know I want a hotas for sure though.

DK 2 is nice, I use(d) one to try out VR (and now I want a better VR headset / GPU / CPU combination ...). If you search for them I think the combo might just fit in the budget. What GPU do you use? As even for the DK2 you still need quite the GPU. I use a GTX 970 and it just barely can handle it :)

I have a gtx 970 too, it can just about handle VR with enough processing power and ram too. Found a few second hand rifts ( the consumer version) for under £190 which is really good. So i think im gonna look into those and if my pc can deal with it lol. Thanks for the response!

So you're looking for used junk that's beaten to pieces then? As has been said save your money until you can actually afford a HOTAS and VR. This is like saying I want to buy a Ferrari but only have $10k, which one should I get?

None.

OP, do you feel you need a true HOTAS? I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick with throttle. It's inexpensive (less than $40 at Newegg) and works well with ED. The main issue is that it only has 16 buttons (including hat), so I use a combination of multiple button presses, shift/control key modifiers, and VoiceAttack for the lesser-used commands.

I reckon you'd be much better of with a 2nd hand Rift than a DK2 if you can find one in good condition. The 970 can run the Rift quite satisfactorily (you'll have to wind down the graphics quality settings but it'll work fine and you'll soon know if VR is an "Oh My God, I need to spend more money on this" kinda thing for you or not). I used a 970 for many months before a work bonus allowed me to get a 1080. As for a HOTAS, get the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X. For the money it's hard to beat (sure it's a bit plasticky but it's solid and if it's good enough for Isinona then it's good enough for me).

Harsh and not true; he/she was asking for advice to gain the most he/she could from what is available. Not everyone can afford every HMD on the planet and then write it off as a waste of time. I'd suggest that for most people £/$/EU 300 is a significant amount of cash. Buying a Ferrari is in a different league entirely.

Well you said something true, not sure where I said everyone could.

and then write it off as a waste of time.

What? Is that supposed to make sense? He wants to buy something, where's the waste of time? If you only have a $400 budget you're going to end up with junk, fact.

For some people it is. For some people buying a used Ferrari isn't. There are scales here. You can get a used Ferrari Dino for about $20-25k if you look hard and buy a piece of junk. You can get a HOTAS and Headset for $400 if you look hard and buy junk. Sorry you don't understand these are facts, not my opinion. He's asked if he can get what he wants for this budget and the answer, as several others have stated is no.

[IMGUR][/IMGUR]You can get a DK2 from CEX for under £100..

https://uk.webuy.com/

And they do a 24 month warranty on their stuff ;)

and you have 14 days to return it if you change your mind if ordering online.

Riiight, and you want to play Elite since you're here? You do know the DK2 hasn't been supported in a loooooooong time, right?

Seriously, please educate yourself. Please.

Except he can (a new Oculus rift is £399). The guy is obviously on a budget hence the budgetary constraint of £300. I don't have a problem with success but telling someone with a clear budgetary constraint that they shouldn't buy something and labelling it junk is utterly misleading. Yes there are scales here and people can get in to VR without selling their Grandmothers Kidneys.

Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS X, and a used Rift shouldn't be hard to find.

Not sure why that guy is being quite hostile to some people but he's been proven wrong a few times. I've actually had a lot of success finding fair priced rifts so I'm gonna make the purchase soon. Even better, I'll have enough left over for the thrust master X. Goes to show, if your willing to buy second hand you can get good deals. Can't wait to fly my conda in VR! Fly safe CMDR o7
