PvP [VIDEO] PvP Gunship Runs from Docking Computer FDL???

Great job demonstrating everything that's wrong with the flight model / way ships have progressed. Gave up watching after a few minutes. Excruciatingly boring. Super-fast pitch speeds (without matching increases in speed and acceleration), the ever-readiness of boost, and the power of reverski have just completely trashed combat in elite. Take a look at this, devs; This is what combat has devolved to.

Hmmm. I don't PvP so forgive my ignorance but that looks a bit pointless to me. How does he possibly win that fight? The second your shields go down you run away and reboot them. Given that you're in a faster ship there's not much he can do about that is there? What could he do differently there, other than fly a FDL himself, to combat the run-reboot-re-engage tactic?

Hell I am still trying to work out what the big deal is about the docking computer?

Scratches head in bewilderment .....

The docking computer is just a silly remark because the 'pure' people think if you use a docking computer, you are lacking in skills. (really, it has very little to do with skill. It is just a snide remark made against people that use a docking computer. Truly, just a player choice in the end.)

As for the fight. I think both used skills that suited their ships well. The FDL has prismatic shields and the drop ship clearly was using bi-weaves. The prismatics engineered up can take more than 40 minutes just to get to full from 50 percent shield. Where as the bi-weave could get to full in less than 8 minutes.

I feel the fdl would of had a gain had it not been using fixed lasers and had gimbled instead. A lot more time he could of been landing attacks with the target ahead of him but not under the dot. ( I am also sure this could be debated. But really, I don't do pvp. )

I think if anything. If you watch this video about 90% at least. You will see some of the major flaws of peer to peer networking used in Elite. Something as simple as a firewall could of been the source of the problem causing the rubber banding.

There were plenty of things the federal guy could do... Like... Oh I don't know,... Like, not taking the FDL reverski bait all the time???

If I were pvping and my enemy was reversing all the time, then after a little while I'd start reversing myself, I wouldn't care if he was laughing at his screen, I wouldn't take the bait.

He has seen what NPC Belugas do to Commanders in the Mailslot, he wasnt about to take that chance with something much faster!

The Gunship pilot really should have switched to his fighter here and there. The FDL was basically ignoring it, and the gunship can take a few hits.

If I remember right, last time I checked modern fighter jets had the maneuverability of a cutter when at full speed (this is comparing the cutter's pitch with their yaw since the realities of space and atmospheric flight means that those are the most relevant stats to compare), while having the max speed of a dd5 enhanced thrusters I courier. So if you took the fastest ship in game and gave it the turning speed of one of the most sluggish ships in game, you would have something comparable to a fighter jet.

It's no wounder the combat model in game is all about flying in a straight line while turning.

its somewhat doable, however the FDL can just boost past minimizing your time on target and then resume the reverski after an FA-off flip.

basically reversing is what the lowest of the low do when they don't have the skill to play fair.

Lol, it's a fair move, the real question is whether the other guy can deal with it or not.

While we're on the subject, who has suggestions on how to balance the reverski maneuver? One thing that comes to mind is looking at the handling ratio of blue zone compared to 0 velocity, the continue that trend as you go below 0. Not only would reverse no longer get a blue zone, but high reverse velocities would lead to far worse handling than even stopped. Makes some amount of sense of the blue zone is supposed to be at least partially due to main engine thrust vectoring.

generally people carry long range weapons to deal with it. i usually use focused plasma myself.
however if a can go backwards faster than another ship can go forwards even accounting for boosts them there kinda aint.
the person being reversed on can reverse himself and then boost forwards then the other guy starts going forwards to catch them. however this will only work if you have low time on target weapons such as PA's and even then you will likely find yourself hopelessly out DPS'd.

so yeah, it has soft counters, but its rightly seen as one of the most pathetic moves a PvP'er can do, not as bad as combat logging, but close to that of using premium

Adding the same velocity caps with FA ON as off would work. We already have speed bleeding for FA off boost, it should apply to FA on reverse/sideways velocity caps as well. Spaceship games aren't fun when you can go backwards that fast

Side note, I think that's the worst fight I've ever seen

Hey it takes pure skill to use fixed weapons.. particuarly since its all boost boost boost, FA off, FPS style aim point and shoot.

Funny how these PvP masters only use PAs and rails and never use fixed lazers or multicannons..

That flight model seemingly was chucked in the the trash.

And gimballed weapons are utterly useless now, chaff chaff *cough* chaff.

Pure skill royt? meh
