Finally! (thanks to 3.0) I have a Corvette...(now with vid in post 110)

@Aashenfox, what do you want to use you're Corvette for? At least, PVE or PVP?

The Corvette has been my primary PVE ship now for about 18 months, and I think I've tried it every which way. I've got modules to refit for different purposes, but the "primary" configuration is intended for CZ endurance. Here is the basic setup, but there is space left for other things to. Its has more than enough power to switch the two huge points for either Beams or Plasma Accelerators, but its runs very cool with the Multi-cannons, which definitely also has its advantages.

The shields on this thing pretty much never go down, so you the could drop the military bulkheads and HRPs, saving money and weight. Honestly, the Corvette is a really easy ship to outfit - at least for PVE I don't think you can really go wrong, and you really don't need to spend an additional 800MCr - this thing is pretty much PVE invincible for far lower cost.

And its got 19Ly jump range too, and I regularly fly it out to Pleiades and back.

I have considered using gimbals, I guess I'll have to see what suits me better in that regard when the time comes.

I run an all gimballed load out. Once you engineer the thrusters to G5 Dirty Drives you can throw her around quite nicely. I’ve never had an issue with manoeuvrability in combat if that’s your concern.

Before 3.0 dropped I was working on my Federal Ranking, because I wanted to finally finish it up on my second account (My second account, the Codger account, has actually become my main account -- but I only have a Corvette on my first account (Artigan)).

Anyway, once 3.0 arrived I first ran around doing some Engineering, then got back to the Federal ranking only to find it faster than it previously was. Those REP+++++ missions are the bomb.

So I now have my second Corvette :)

I'm just a PVE scrub, though. I've never even tried PAs. I guess I should give them a go sometime soon :)

Thanks all for the tips.

I've tried both PA's and fixed beams on the huge hardpoints and they both satisfy. I prefer the range and precision of twin beams. Shield cell banks have a hard time keeping up with the damage of beams.

Hardcore combat, PvE and PvP. In other words, mainly pvp loadout, that's why the weapons will be PAs, rails and srabmle lasers. Clearing hazreses and CZs is the main pve use, as stated in the op. There will not be a single module that isn't related to defense.

I wish I could convince myself a I don't need a billion credit corvette, trouble is, I do. :p Mine will get 14ly max, but that's cool, lol. It;s not going to be a bubble hopper (or mayb eit IS, lol).

Thanks for tips it's all good info I will be bearing in mind. :)

Thanks for sharing, she's a beaut. :)

I've always felt that the C1 mounts on the nose of the Corvette are useless for anything except turrets. Sure, you can put missiles on them for missions, or railguns but they're far from large enough to hold the ammo you'll need if you're fighting larger prey or aiming for CZ/REZ/Beacon stints.

Stick a couple of C1 beam/pulse turrets on them. The DPS is puny but the'll keep small fry like eagles, iCouriers and SLFs under constant fire. Since the DPS is so puny, I use them as utility turrets, applying either thermal shock, emissive munitions, or scramble spectrum to my targets.

I also find a turret useful for the C3 hardpoint on the bottom. Yes, it's a DPS loss but unlike a fixed/gimballed weapon, it won't wastefully fire if your target it outside the firing arc. I find in a corvette that I almost always pitch up because the pair of C4 hardpoints dominate your DPS and you want your target to be 0-20 degrees above your nose as much as possible.

In 3.0, efficient beams/pulse are way better than the old G5 rolls used to be; 15% lower distributor draw than the legacy mod and around 20% higher DPS. Just because they *used* to be rubbish doesn't mean they still are....

Thanks for your thoughts and the info on the hardpoints, helpful. Regarding beams, long range vs efficient is basically based on the speed of the ship for me. If you can get within 800m consistently, efficient is worth it, otherwise long range is a significant dps increase. I don't even know what my flying style will be like with this yet (though I have the idea I'm going to be trying to fly it just like I would a small ship, lol), we shall see! Thanks for th info though, I haven't had time to look at the new G5s yet.

Emissive, for those pesky res pythons, scramble spectrum because it's funny.

Yes, the other night I took down at a wing of 3 highly ranked Anacondas in a HazRes with my twin 4A beams alone.

Dual 4A Gimbaled Beams are much more effective on this ship than fixed. With the right PD and the G5 Efficient Weapon Mod applied to both 4As in equal measure (much easier to pull off now in 3.0 than 2.4), the contact/hit rate can be nearly constant onto the target.

The Class 3 Belly Mount Slot is a perfect location for a Plasma or Rail Gun. So you can have the advantages of both high powered Gimbaled Beams and a solid fixed weapon fully charged and useable at the same time.

I prefer a fully upgraded Advanced Plasma in that location with the Plasma Slug Exp applied for unlimited ammo. :)

Yay so thanks to 3.0 now all of us that worked hard for the vette and grinded r way there 3.0 is now holding your hand to give you more rep and allowing all these noobs to get a ship that should have been worked for not handed out.

Noob in corvette < Pro in corvette.

Dont worry.

I've been playing since gold disc (with breaks), but your point is valid. Did you not detect the note of derision in the sentence 'made it trivial' in the OP? ;)

Up to now, I was making steady progress, if we were still in 2.4 it would have been maybe 5 more hours of data deliveries rather than two, so it's not like it changed my game that much, however, I can't help thinking how easy it must now be to climb through the early levels.

I fully expect a nerf to mission rep rewards, people should make hay while the sun shines, I'll be taking the Corvette to Empire space and get the Cutter done soon before it happens.

Anyway, I worked hard for it, can't say what the future holds though. At least, as pointed out, it's just a big rebuy if you don't have the game nous to outfit and fly it properly.

You can look at it like an 8 year old child would I guess. I prefer to accept the changes that have been made and help new players get the most out of this great ship.

I never did any grinding for my Corvette. I was already a Rear Admiral the day the ship was added to the game, so I guess that makes me one of the first players to own a Corvette in ED. I've never looked down my nose at anyone who bought one months or years after I did. Despite the Fed ranking system becoming easier and easier to get through over time.

In fact... More likely than not, despite it originally not offering any ship access perks, I put a lot more time into my Rear Admiral rank than you did. ;)
