Good ship, still killed immediately

Piloting a keelback is not a good start.

t6, t7 , diamondbacks
are not exactly hard ships. I don't have confidence to fly those ships but there are many people who make miracles with them.

If the ship does not handle taking a lot of punishment doesn't work for me.

Exactly!

That and likely being fired on by 4-6 ships at once.

his is why I generally don't bother with ANY signals. There's no point in even trying to take on odds like that, even in a combat ship. Personally, I think it's a serious problem with the game design. It's such an integral part of the game, yet it's so often rendered unplayable because your enemies are either too numerous or far more powerful (usually both). I mean, if I'm flying my T-7 mining ship, what chance can I be expected to have against 10-12 pirates (which seems to be the usual number)?

I haven't done much PvP as of late (I can generally avoid it). But one engineering special effect will increse the recharge rate by 15%. Add that on top of a bi-weave and it's going to make it even more useful.

I just can't see a KB being much of a PvP ship, though, given how those other ships are going to be specialized to the task and you're essentially handicapping yourself. Still, if you had another player in the fighter you at least would have that going for you.

Absolutely. I'm just referring to the bit where you high-wake before you explode. Before 3.0, that was by no means a certain thing (even without bi-weaves). With bi-weaves + further power inflation of weapons, I'm afraid it's going to be even worse.

They have been throwing FDL's, etc, against my Sidewinder, on local message missions.

OP, I feel your pain. You simply have to accept that every ship in Elite is going to get hit. This is why multi-role ships that can survive long enough to escape are popular. Cobra 3, Asp Explorer, Python.

Entered as Peoples' Exhibit A : Proof having all the knowledge of humanity at your fingertips is not increasing intelligence.

WIS is very different from INT. :)

Im piloting a keelback with 3A shields (boosted with 0A), 2D reinforced hull, and point defense; but when investigating a distress beacon knowing good and well theres gonna be enemies there (oh boy, here i go killin again) my shields are taken down INSTANTLY and my hull plummets to zero within 10 seconds.

That's not a good ship for that at all.

Someone please please PLEASE explain what I am doing wrong i got on the forum specifically for this cause I couldnt find anything elsewhere.

What you're doing wrong is entering distress call signals.

It's just wave after wave of hostile pirates (up to and including full Anaconda wings) with no real conclusion. All over some little NPC in an Adder or something with no remarkable cargo that could possibly warrant that kind of response.

U ned 2 git gud s0n. wen u git smashT ask "Y" not "gud ship". ez pz

We need you to post more often. :)

And yet some botch both rolls.

I got a good laugh from this. A Keelback with a class 3 shield is NOT a good ship.
If you want a Keelback that can handle combat, you need at least 5C Bi-weave shield. Nothing smaller.
A fighter bay is also a 100% absolute necessity.

Here's a build that I used back in 2.4. With an NPC pilot, and some fighter skills, you can handle any Small Sized ship with it.

Note that you really can't trade AND do a combat focus in the Keelback. You have to pick one, and if it's Trade, you need to focus on defense. If it's combat, don't expect to haul a lot.

Oh, and don't jump into fights outnumbered, and don't fight at all without a fighter. The Keelback has some defenses, but its still a Type-6 at its core.

Let's shorten that.

"A Keelback...is NOT a good ship".

Here you go.

Want a combat trader? Get Python.

1. Mistake
Keelback - good ship??

2. Mistake
Distress call? Unengineered better don't go higher than thread level 2. Everything else would kill you

3. Mistake
Keelback

4. Mistake
You've didn't used a Falcon DeLacy ship

And don't sit there like a duck. MOVE! Always move! ;)

This are just some ideas....if i would know more about your scenario, i could help you more ;)

Allow me to shamefully hijack this thread with asking about, how can I find distress signal USS? I have not seen that since like a year ago.

same thing happened to me yesterday in a threat 0 site and I was in a beluga liner with modified A rated shields. Ambushed.

Cruise in shipping lanes or near stations/populated planets. Alternatively, trade your USS luck for mine.
