I'd like to say thank you to Frontier, for the addition of Thargoid Scouts.

I've been playing the original 1984 Elite via the emulator available on the Frontier store.

The Thargoid Scouts in Elite 3304 are just like the ships fought in 1984, iny ever so humble opinion.

These smaller Thargoid ships have opened up xeno-combat to just about all players, and are a really good challenge for regular rank-&-file combateers such as myself. Indeed, I think my improving skills with fixed weapons are down to to the Scouts.

Really good addition Frontier. Very fun, real challenge for us average Joes, and a great nod to the game's history.

I really don't intend to sound rude here, but do you really find them a challenge? I'm a very casual Pve guy, and I was going through them like a hot knife through butter. And the step up from these guys to the other thargoids is huge.

Yes, because believe it or not, we as humans have varying levels of skills in different areas.

Just because you find them easy doesn't mean I do. No two people are the same.

The Marauders are probably designed to be enganged with small ships like a Viper or Cobra. They can be destroyed with conventional weapons. They are very agile and don’t put out that much damage, and the caustic missile damage is much less painful to repair with a small ship.

With medium ships I agree they are very easy, even for me as a ‘competent’ noob. Took my FGS to the CG equipped with 5 MC and it felt like skeet shooting,

They're actually pretty fun to fight against. A shame they only pay 10k.

Receiving 40-50k credits and spending the exact same amount to rearm and fix my vulture from caustic damage doesn't exactly make thargoid hunting a viable and rewarding activity.

Awesome. Think I'll go down to the CG today.

I am so totally with you here.

I cannot kill a big Thargoid - there is no AX gimbals available, turrets are bad (and currently buggy) at aiming at specific modules, and I simply cannot use fixed multicannons and missiles (I can hit the thargoid, but I cannot hit the heart). I'm a gimbal guy. Always have been, always will.
Scouts are very nice addition for me - finally I can participate in combat thargoid CGs or just kill a bug or two (or two hundred, LOL) - without any artificial "challenge".

The CG is over

Only the kill one, not the 'deliver the stuff they drop when you kill them', right? Anyway, I found them quite tough in my multi-role FDL with PAs. These suckers are tiny, and hitting them aint that easy at all. And having eight of them buzzing around with their caustic missiles makes it a race against the clock.

They dont have chaff so I am sure that just gimballed MCs would rip through them though.

Yeah, this is one of the better things they've added.

Super happy they can be involved in Hyperdictions now too, as that means it isn't JUST totally optional, signal sources.

They sure do rip them. As well as beams. For FDL, I recommend to dump all this challengy trash like plasmas, rails and other fixed stuff, and get 4 gimballed efficient beams and huge overcharged MC with autoloader. With sufficient shields and hull, you will be able to solo two Threat 6 NHSS in one sortie in a row. (Hint: that "13%" indicates that your hull is not sufficient. Or you are extremely bad at avoiding caustic clouds UFOs leave after death)

I'd suggest you don't waste money on the anticorrosion limpets. In the time they take to work you could just close off your heat vents to boil off the acid at 160 degrees.

A few days back I got 90,000 credits for killing scouts, and I only had 80,000 credits worth of corrosion damage, so that meant I made a clear profit of 10,000 credits... or just slightly under that once you take off the cost of bullets.

Thanks for the tip.
Ye I winged up yesterday with a guy met at the station in Socho and he told me about the vent trick. Still, it fries my modules extremely fast, I can do it twice max and then I have to go back, it's useful yes, but the issue still stands.

I agree. I don't much care for fighting the bigger Thargoid ships...too much like scripted boss fights in other games. But the scouts are good fun dog fighting. just wish a kill rewarded more money or there were missions.

Ha, only lightweight armor and no HRP (I need my SRV :p). But I've basically 'retired', in that I only do stuff I find entertaining rather than what is efficient. Right now I am working on my PA skills again. I bet using my corvette would be more relaxing though! :)
