Open play trolls

The grind wall is an utter fabrication, you can do any activity you want after a couple of hours of 'grind' ie learning how the game works.

There really is one for PvP though! And it's not fabricated by that particular player wanting to get into PvP but by the other PvPers who've set the meta at a certain level.

Complaints should be directed at them, or indeed re-directed and made into reasons for a separate PvP game-mode where any loadout can be selected from a menu with no grind. Which would be fine but utterly trashes the intended slow upgrade path of the PvE game that everything is built around, thus not compatible with the rest of the game.

I really think the PvP community would be wise to get behind my vague Elite: Crucible plans - it gives them absolutely everything they want apart from being linked with the main galaxy. I would argue that the loss of solo/pg players 'messing' with their stuff and loss of grindwall would be a worthwhile exchange

What do you think the engineers 3.0 was for? Now anyone can reach that level. They literally removed 3/4's of the grind compared to what it used to be to max out and get lucky.

Its available to everyone now. There literally is no excuse.

If you want to compete with other players you can do it in stock sidewinders. If you want to compete at the top end & be the best you should be prepared to put the effort in, more than your hypothetical opponent.

This 'need' to have everything is just boorish. If you're thye competitive type, put the effort in. If you're not, don't & accept others will. If you just want to fight with friends do it in the cheapest ship you can all get your hands on.

Complaining that you have to do the work just to keep up with everyone else (who also did that work) is bull.

despite the fact that I enjoy groups such as SDC's shenanigans

Ah. You mean the completely predictable actions? Like "betraying" Salome? Oh boy, didn't see that coming 30.000ly away, with them posting stuff like "all defenders must be unarmed" and such.
Then again, perhaps I'm just not smart enough to appreciate this highly emergent content.

But seriously, there's little difference between group and open play in terms of features. You lose very little by not playing in open. Most definitely you don't lose any element of surprise, because it's perfectly obvious what's going to happen if you play in open and go to a CG, or some location that's been in the news recently.

Salt != Excitement.

I'm not denying that it's made it sort-of easier, but as jason just said "there is no good reason why PvP should be gated behind so much compulsory grinding" so I'm talking about that grind. If you want to argue with him about whether it's still a grind then please feel free

Plus you must consider that not everyone wants to do that. I'm VASTLY happier finding loot as I go and that dictating how my ship is and making it a story, or personal narrative, rather than "do all this THEN play"

One of the main issues I see is this. People go into open. People dont engineer their stuff. People complain and point fingers. Two years later those people still complain and point fingers even though they could have done boat loads of engineering in the mean time. Even if its just to survive and not have a 45 minute reverski PVP fight with lasers and 8k shields on a FDL.

The thing is some people just point and blame other people for certain types of gameplay. ESPECIALLY PVP actions, including BGS pvp actions where UA bombing happened. It happens anytime someone is effected.

I understand the gamer side of us losing and winning. But we all have the same tools guys. USE THEM.

Are you telling people how to play a game that says "Play your way" - the phrase used to excuse the way you want to play even if it spoils the game for others?

Ah yup, yes you are.

The game should be playable in Open for people who have just started - the moment you start dictating that people must stay out of open until they've engineered up, ground out a PvP capable ship and gotten a load of experience it's all gone wrong.

I stayed in private and solo for a while when i worked on my ships. There is actually a whole story behind this I have told several times.

Im not talking about the new player either. Established ones.

Oh dear. This is the kinda pvp-bro pixel flexing that hurts the game. Nobody's impressed that you've spent an age grinding so you "handle the heat" - all this attitude does is drive people out of Open and paint you in a certain light.

if you actually want to fight you have to grind the engineers, simply because your opponent did just that, but if all you want to do is survive, just engineer the shield, submit and high wake.

Think of survivability in open as a slider that goes from 1 to 100. Pvp'ers are >95. Most of the open haters are <20. The bigger the difference, the faster you die. This is just where your engineering and modules are concerned, as skill is far less an issue when it comes to survival than knowledge.

The real issue? Too many people are self-righteous about not wanting a challenge, but insist on open play so they can then demand the game be altered to deny the rights of those that do challenge.

Hell, I 'grief' in an iEagle and regularly see everthing from noobwinders to condas and type 10's running for the hills. Why? Grom-bombs and enforcers inflicting shock and awe panic. Anyone can high wake out, but they don't. They actually stop flying/evading/living so they can call me derogatory names in chat.

If you don't have the instinct to survive in open, you don't belong there. Stop denying others the right to play how they want in open just because you can't play how you want in all game modes. It is very inconsiderate.
