(outdated) PSA: Killing ships in combat zones affect REP (doesn't happen anymore)

Count me with the lot that says this is a much needed mechanic and long overdue. Killing hundreds of pilots and destroying billions of credits of their assets and tipping the balance of power of a system against a faction SHOULD make them your enemy.

Do it enough and minor factions should send their own ATR-style hit squad after you when you show your face in system until the war is lost or they chase you out.

From a thematic point of view, this change does make sense, but from a gameplay point of view it hasn't been well thought-out at all. For one, it makes it a lot harder to overthrow a faction (and pretty much impossible if that faction controls all the assets in the system, since you can't turn in CBs.)

But also, some PP factions (like Aisling) have to favour independent faction types rather than those affiliated with their own superpower for BGS purposes (lowering fortification/expansion triggers, etc.) That means if I'm, say, an Aisling CMDR who wants to put a communist faction in power to help lower a fortification trigger, I likely have to fight an Empire faction. Which would mean becoming hostile to the Empire, with all the consequences thereof.

I really don't think FDev thought this all the way through.

Can't comment from a PP point of view...but if a Faction DOES control ALL of the assets in a System SHOULDN'T they be REALLY hard to overthrow?

As Sentenza said. This change makes it impossible to overthrow a controlling faction if they own all the system's assets, as one would quickly be hostile with them and unable to dock anywhere to cash CBs. This is particularly punishing in systems that only have one or two assets to begin with.

One could establish a large enough lead while the war was pending to win anyways, but all it would take is CMDRs fighting for the defending side (who would be gladly welcomed in those stations) to flip it such that the attacking side has zero chance of victory. Again, this change makes sense thematically, but from a gameplay standpoint makes very little sense.

Finally!!!!!

That's how it always should have been.

Vin Delanos approves.

Agreed, and thanks for breaking up that name, Vin. Now I can pronounce it correctly and still get a chuckle.. Not sure what a "Vin" is, but Delanos... I know what that is "of the", and it's not years. ;-)

Killing ships in a CZ now (?) affects the reputation with that faction and the super-power.

{Is that new in 3.0.3 or was that in 3.0? - I think it's new in 3.0.3}

I am concerned, that since FDev have it so that Empire aligned factions hurt Aislings economy, and we are forced to fight against Imps for BGS/fort triggers. What sort of state will our relationships with the Empire, and Emipre aligned factions be after this.
A lot of us make Cubeo a home base, will we even be allowed to dock at Medupe City?

Exactly. This can't work until the prohibition to land for hostiles is removed.

First thing though is checking that this is indeed the case. I'm upgrading the game now, after I will find a random war and see what happens.

Once hostile every enemy ship turns on you immediately even before selecting a side. Youll get one good cz run then wont be able to enter another.

This must definitely be a bug. Otherwise it is the least thought about change ever, and this after seeing loads of stupid changes.

What about cashing them in at interstellar factors?
Or does using IF remove any rep gain?

This again, hello? i mean i am not in cubeo but, [where is it]

I just went and tested this by fighting against a faction I'm 100% allied with, and found no faction or superpower rep loss. It merits more testing, but I think the OP might have been mistaken.

Yep, this should be mitigated by placing a "Megaship" in any system that is at war, for any faction that owns no "assets" like stations though, so that you can turn in your bonds there.

This'd be thematic, cool, and make you feel like your fighting for your guys.

It'd also be cool if, upon getting to the point where said faction is losing the war, a combat zone opens up around said megaship, obviously, you should still be able to dock though, but it should be emergency docking, similar to under attack stations we have with current thargoid attacks.

This is actually a cool idea...

Spend some time in a CZ today and noticed that, I like it tbh. There just needs to be a way to hand in bonds and help with the war when one faction owns all assests, but aside from that they starting to hate you for fighting against them makes a lot of sense.
