Just tried my first 3.03 skimmer mission

For 4.8 million (iirc) credits.

Skimmers didnt show till i went in with an srv (despite practically landing my ship in the middle of the compound) then i was surrounded by them. Took out 2, got stuck in a piece of scenery and picked to death by the remaining skimmers.

So congrats FD, you have managed to make the ever shrinking list of fun things to do in elite dangerous one item shorter.

No more store dollars for you :)

Wait, you mean they actually made the missions challenging? The audacity!

Don't know what game you guys playing, but I'm still killing skimmers from my ship

Gonna have to agree with this. Sounds like they actually made it fun and challenging. It always felt silly that "SRV combat missions" were best completed by lobbing dumbfires from your ship. It felt even sillier that a base would deploy its tiny little anti-SRV defenses when threatened by a ship. One does not typically deploy a bunch of mall cops when a tank rolls up.

Yeah, I'm not sure what OP was expecting. It does sound like fun as described.

This is the first time I have ever heard of an SRV being killed by a skimmer, or actually getting stuck where you could not move at all. Did they beef the skimmers up or something?

Meh.

I go at skimmers the same way I always did. Land within 400k of the base, and wander about for POI to drop a few skimmers to pick off so its easy couple missions.

I always thought dropping dumbfires on the skimmers was a perfectly legitimate thing to do. Fighting in an SRV seemed like the option of last resort. I had hoped FDev would make using dumbfires a costly thing to do as a means of discouraging it -- like maybe getting huge fines for collateral damage to structures or something. Oh well...

You get bounties if you destroy turrets etc.. so your idea is actually: working as intended :D

Not really. Not if I have to use an SRV :D

but you don't, I was doing a mission without it.

The last skimmers I decided to get into the SRV, and spin around. I had 1 notoriety since I had to kill a turret that was frying my shields, so.. as I had to wait 2h for it to vanish I started picking up polonium and germanium while looking for the last 2 skimmers to kill, then go to the IF, paid the bounty, go back, cash in the mission, cheers.

PS: I only picked up one mission to do some testing of the new system, next time I'll pack a few and finish them without needing to wait as I don't expect any bounties in my head.

I guess FD thinks that SRV combat is more fun than ship combat or something.

I dont agree with them about it but what can I do its there game they make the decisions. Also possible that they didn't stop to think about which was more fun and had other motives, but usually the point of games is to be fun so I dunno.

Not gonna do any skimmer missions ever again I can tell ya that much!

I don't know if I'd really count firing a dimbfire missile in the general vicinity of a bunch of tiny targets that pose 0 threat as "ship combat".
