The Mistake wasn't made by Frontier but by you and others who bought the game without researching it enough and now want to change it to suit what you wanted to be.

Whether the three game modes (not forgetting that there are three platforms now) sharing a single galaxy state is a mistake or a stroke of genius rather depends on one's opinion - especially as it relates to whether players should be able to force other players to engage in direct PvP.
Don't you know Robert that according to Dietger your opinion doesn't matter and neither does mine because we don't go into Open... though I thought you did.

Indeed - because I don't find it to be a "fun" experience the vast majority of the time - and I play games for "fun".
Frontier thought ahead when they designed the game....

But Open being friendly and social is not the point. Never was, for folks like you - complaining. Open is a friendly place. As you, by now, are well aware.
Open is about competition.

No one complains about PVP.. people have complained about those who "seal club" and such and who are driving people OUT of Open or of the game all together... yet you seem to ignore this and try to turn it into an attack on Open itself. Why is that?

The complaints are not (generally) about Open, in and of itself - the complaints relate to demands from some players who prefer to play in Open seeking to remove or restrict existing (or already announced) content currently available in all three modes from players in Solo and Private Groups - for the apparent benefit of players in Open.
It's about the liberty to engage in the game's content in one's chosen game mode - a liberty that some players would very much like to restrict.

Modes in Elite, do not accuse anyone of cowardice. Modes do not take you at face value, cheat yourself out of your game, be my guest.

Stop complaining about Open! You are not up to it!
There where, Ladies&Gents in and out for years! Happy in.
Do play, what you like. Stop complaining.
Open is OK!
Its for me, folks. Welcoming everyone, else. Open is for matures. Only.
Solo is OK!
Groups is OK!
So how about everyone stop complaining and leave others alone.
