Hcs voice packs altering other apps code?

Quite - I think HCS got a little too big for thier britches and maybe thought that because they've partnered up with FDev, and there's been talk of the same for Star Citizen, that they were in the big leagues now and could throw their weight around.

The supposed "legal infringement" brought by HCS against GMP has yet to be proven as anything other than hot air, some are saying this sabotage might be an act of retaliation as they can't bring any legal case. (which is still INCREDIBLY ILLEGAL).

Either that or with the singularity version of HCS, they might have had thier own music plugin in the the pipeline and sought to cripple the usage of GMP's version.

Either way - I think they have sunk themselves and good riddance - might be weeks or months, but the damage has been done. Why or how they even thought they would get away with it just boggles the mind.

Just desserts.

I've also posted that reddit link in the Star Citizen forums.

(I may or may not have also forwarded that reddit page, through various avenues to every single one of thier celebs who provide voices, who may or may not decide they don't want to be associated with whatever legal shenagins will probably come next; I'm pretty certain that all of the celebs will have retained the rights to pull any content provided by them should they so choose, so even if HCS weathers the storm, losing the celeb voices will be a crippling blow.)

Hi everyone! I'd also like to add to Paul's response with my own. I am the coder of the plugins that shipped with Singularity. Due to ongoing licencing issues between HCS and GameMusicPacks I was instructed to stop their product working alongside our own product. I am not an experienced coder, I do this for fun to the best of my abilities. Initially I added code to stop our profile being used as a secondary profile which was necessary for GameMusicPacks to function. This immediately had them altering their code to circumvent that protection. As I didn't wish to directly affect many of HCS's own customers I decided it was then necessary to mess with some of their variables to once again stop it being used with ours. They have now also worked around this protection. The latest version, which was already waiting to be released last night regardless of the reddit posts, removes this attempt at protection and simply stops our own profile from working. You will all scream that I should have done that in the first place and yes you are all correct. My inexperience in these matters did not even contemplate that everyone would have such an issue with what I did. Paul Watson, the owner of HCS, put a lot of trust in myself to achieve what was necessary. He is not a coder and put complete faith and trust in myself to do that. I did not target anything else other than GameMusicPacks and their insistence that their product must work with the HCS products, despite being contacted repeatedly by HCS to stop.

So, to cut this short. Paul Watson and HCS VoicePacks were unaware of the exact methods I employed to achieve this. They are completely innocent in this matter and I take full responsibility for my actions. I wholeheartedly apologise to everyone for what I did. My intent was clear but you are all correct that the methods I took to achieve this were not acceptable. I have now resigned from HCS and I hope you all see this for what it is and continue to support Paul Watson and HCS VoicePacks for the wonderful products they produce for all of you.

Even as an official explanation, I still find that HCS was complicit in this. Regardless of Mr. Barber's acceptance of the responsibility for the coding that rendered MY money obsolete, Mr. Watson was obviously on board with making these two products not work together. That is unacceptable and unexcusable any way you cut it. Just because he was ignorant to the method used, he was complicit in asking it be done. Telling me that my money spent on a competitors (in his eyes) product wasn't worthy to run on a program (VA) that again I spent money on.
Contrary to what I believe the point of the confession above was, this just made my resolve against buying another damned thing from HCS Voicepacks that much stronger! I already feel dirty for having bought ASTRA and the personalization pack from such a company...
Now I will update my purchased products and I will use the crap out of it, but they will not get any more of my money, nor will FDEV for any products they have co-operated with HCS on.

Intriguing. I have two HCS voicepacks. I don't regret buying either, but I'll follow this with some interest.

Looks like someone has "volunteered" to be thrown under a bus in an attempt to calm the issue. Instead, it is looking contrived and the company management is looking inept.

This affects FD's COVAS going forward. There's a trust issue at stake.

COVAS may become COVEFE !

Well. Because of this, I think it is clear which side is being unreasonable (and trying to hide evidence). HCS certainly won't be getting any further money from me. :)

I am kidding, but I can't wait to see who wins the fight over "The Ant"

"I wasn't aware there was an issue";

"I have no recollection of giving that instruction;"

"Lessons will be learned" ..... "as we go forward" .... and "improve our customer experience."
