Elite / Frontier Play.com

Play.com are still at it:
You can pre order Elite IV : The Next Encounter
£34.99 rrp £49.99
Release Date 27/6/2008

Surely they can be sued for accepting payment for a product that (at the moment) doesn't exist? (It must be fraud)

How do they know what the sub-title of the game is if we on this forum don't know (for sure) any information about the game.?

How can they possibly have a release date when again we can't find out ?

Could someone at Frontier please comment on these questions.
(I'm not asking Frontier to divulge info, just comment about Play.com)

Ooh, well noticed.

I think i'm going to set up a company to sell pre-orders of
Elite 5: The Encounter After That.

Your £34.99 should have racked up a tasty bit of interest by then.....

Seriously though, Frontier really should kick up a fuss about this.

Play.com accepts pre-orders but won't charge your card until they ship the product to you. As such it is not fraudulent.

We do wonder from which hat they pulled this particular rabbit (the release date) though. I suppose it could just be a fan at Play.com trying to tell us to get on with it.

Though come to think of it... I wonder if "amount of pre-orders" have any value from an accounting point of view? I need to look that up at some stage.

Safe to say though, in terms of Elite IV Play.com does not know what they are talking about.

I am not sure that I follow you... I get the impression you are feeling upset by something I said which was never my intention. Would you care to elaborate for me? Possibly in a private message so not to spam the board.

It's not just games that Play "invent" a release date for. The OH saw a poster she wanted in February so I ordered it, with release date of 01/03/2008. It's 1st June and I'm still waiting for it to be posted! :D

Damn it.

OK i am preparing to add:

Elite Infinity: An Encounter After Whatever Encounter You Can Say, So Nur.

This is the way forward for games retailing, methinks.

*edit*

SMARS, this title "The Next Encounter". Have you ever used this as a working title, and if not, do you not think it's a bit rich of them to start naming your unborn child for you?

I believe this may be the reasoning behind the naming used by Play:
