After reading about the Thargoids on Galnet...

It seems to me the Thargoids have barely advanced with regards to technology. All the things we find from Thargoids today are the same things the Guardians found thousands of years ago.

The Cyclops, Basilik, Medusa tissue samples, sensor, probe and link from today all unlock the Guardian codex from thousands of years ago.

Evolution is based on natural selection. Apex predators on our planet haven't changed for millions of years, because they didn't need to.

Maybe now with humans in the equation (just like with predators on Earth today) changes will be forced.

Except the Guardians cleaned their clocks when the Thargoids went up against them, so they're not really apex predators and they already had selection pressure which resulted in no changes.

Maybe they werent actually from any particular planet at all, they just use them as a hatchery or nursery or whatever. Perhaps they literally live in space...I sometimes wonder why we are so arrogant to think we are right about everything that they evolved like we believe them to have evolved. They could have been at a technological stage fer millions of years and never changed because they dont know how to or have no desire to change ^

Evolution has nothing to do with science though. So for that time period, Thargoids made no new scientific discoveries.

Umm, what? Have you ever seen a Thargoid scientist?
You make the same mysteak as everbody by comparing us with them and trying to assume things.

Considering that Thargoid technology is grown rather than manufactured, it's entirely likely that the current generation of Thargoids have absolutely no idea how any of their tech actually works - they just know how to grow it. Wouldn't surprise me if they're similar to Warhammer 40K's Imperium of Man.

They may not think they have any need of research considering that their technology has been unmatched for thousands of years, ever since the Guardians went extinct.

I am currently re-reading (yes, reading) the gap series by Stephen Donaldson.
In this series the aliens (Amnion) are more scientifically advanced than the humans, however the humans manufacturing capablilities are far superior.
Could something similar be happening here?
We can pick up any ship at any point with enough cash, possibly growing ships takes far longer (if the Thargoids do in fact grow ships).
Just a thought.

Harry Turtledove's Worldwar series had some interesting thoughts on how the presence of large oceans and family groups causes humanity to be better at war than a technologically superior alien species:

"One of the major aspects of the Race's society is that technological progress proceeds very slowly, on the scale of thousands of years. Their original unmanned probe that surveyed Earth a thousand years ago found only a medieval civilization of armored knights on horseback, but the Race was astonished that 20th century Earth had reached an industrial technology level, with radios and mechanized warfare. As the attempt to conquer Earth progressed, the Race was also horrified and confused that Earth nations could develop new tank models, from design phase to mass-production, in less than two years.

The Race speculates that the reason for this vast difference in the rate of technological development is partially historical, partially biological. Because the Race's homeworld didn't have large oceans, it was politically unified very early in its history. In contrast, Earth's large oceans encouraged its political division among rival nation-states. The result is that the Race does not possess the same history of constant, endemic warfare that Earth does. Such warfare fueled technological arms races, benefiting the human nations that were able to develop better weapons as quickly as possible. The biological aspect that the Race considers is that unlike the Race, human society is centered around nuclear families. This in turn led to political organization into clan-groups, and ultimately along territorial lines, fueling the competition between rival nations. In contrast, because the Race doesn't develop nuclear families, competition in the Race is along generational gaps between age groups, not clan groups."
